Thanks, Chris hi chris i had this cam in my old manta with carbs and it was ok but the op214 is a much better cam to use unless your going to rally it , i did get more power aswell with the 214 and its not as lumpy on tick over . cheers jock
Chris M
Thanks for that Jock. I will speak to David at mantasport as he will be fitting it for me as its way beyond my technical ability. Thanks again
doveyte2800
Hi there, Agree with Jock about the cam type. I can only say about Piper but their equivilant is a OPBP270 which has a rev range of 2000 - 6500 and can give around 10 bhp Their OPBP285 has a range of 2500 - 6700 and can give around 16 bhp. You should always use new followers with a new cam. The cost new of either of these , together with followers is around £260 + vat Regards John

mantasrme
Thats interesting what you say about the OP214 cam giving more power with your carbs. Looking at the specs on Kents site the only difference is a couple of degrees less duration and a bit of difference in overlap between the 2 lobes (although i'm not sure if its more or less) OP214 Sports Power Band 2000-6500 Cam Lift(mm) 7.43mm Inlet/Exhaust Valve Lift(mm) 10.89mm Inlet/Exhaust Duration 278 Deg Inlet/Exhaust Timing 33/65 65/33 Full Lift Inlet 107 Deg ATDC OP234 Competition Power Band 2000-6000 Cam Lift(mm) 7.43mm Inlet/Exhaust Valve Lift(mm) 10.89mm Inlet/Exhaust Duration 280 Deg Inlet/Exhaust Timing 37/63 73/27 Full Lift Inlet 103 Deg ATDC What carbs were you running with those cams? I have had a couple of OP234 cams in injected CIH engines and they didn't really make it lumpy at tickover. One was an otherwise standard lump (just air filter and exhaust) the 2nd had a stg3 head and was making almost 150bhp, but was a little less drivable for everyday use unless you drove it hard all the time. Chris won't mind us highjacking his thread a little if it leads to working out the best cam for his engine, which i then get to fit
