399Road
I'm looking for a company to overhaul an ATE Master cylinder for my Ascona. It says "ATE 20" on the cylinder and looks like a late GT/E one, but with different brake pipe unions. I'd guess that a Manta seal kit would fit in it. Does anyone know where I could get it sorted out? ...Luke.
dynamytedan
http://www.pastparts.co.uk/ they do a rebore and stainless sleeve insert for it .... ive been meaning to get one but haven't yet . seems like the best option to me , you wont need another one ever and theres no danger of it not working properly like they can do with a new old stock seal kit/master . 399Road
Thanks for that. I've filled out their enquiry form about what I'm after so I'll see what they come up with. I fitted a seal kit to my old GT/E's ATE master cylinder about 8 years ago and it was never quite right. The only other option I can see is to fit a Bias pedal box to the car but I'd rather keep it simple and stick with the Servo too. Thanks again Dan... Luke. andyc
Yep past parts have done a couple for me now at about £100.00 a time which includes all new internals, stainless sleeve inserts and a good clean, also had a couple of servos done as well. 399Road
I had a look on German Ebay but couldn't find one that had the same size mounting flange as mine. It looked like most of the Opel master cylinders on there were being sold from the UK! I'm glad somebody else has used Pastparts before. I'll wait and see what they say. I've got that trackday at Mallory in May so I need to get it done soon. Luke.
Julian
Sent Pastparts an email. had a reply within a couple of hours, they do not do a repair kit as such, but informed me that if I send them the cylinder seals, they can match them up, so I will give them a go, and report back, with costs etc.
399Road
They sorted out my ATE Master cylinder and it works fine. It ended up needing sleeving, all new seals and pistons and cost £148 including delivery. It didn't come back Zinc plated, just a clean dull finish ready for painting. They swapped the union that connects the rear brakepipe to the cylinder for one with a different flare, which caused a bit of messing about and they took about 2 weeks to rebuild it. I would use them again, but save any unusual fittings before you send it away. ...Luke.
