I'm looking for advice on strengthening the chassis rails from the anti roll bar mounts to where the front subframe bolts up through. The sumpguard / radiator frame mounts onto the arb brackets and further forward on the chassis. Any members advice would be appreciated.

Cheers Craig

For chassis strengthening on the Grasser kadett i had i reinforced with 16 gauge additional plates. These were drilled and spot welded through as well. Reinforce the seams by welding, inch then miss an inch then another inch weld all down the seams. Any juctions, i.e where the chassis leg meets the bulkhead use 16 gauge triangular gussets and anywhere else that looks like it could bend. Reinforce bolt holes with thick washers welded to structure.

Thats about it!!!

Thanks for the advice I'm going to complete the seam welding as its only been half done and plate and gusset the rest. I did think of doing something along the lines of an escort strengtheners and making say a 40-50mm shaped plate maybe 3-4mm thick shaped to the side profile of the rails with 25mm holes along its length which I could weld around internally and seam weld the outside

I have often pondered if adding a brace from the cross-member forward on each side to the chassie rail somewhere near the anti-rollbar bracket would add usefull extra strength.

the subframe assembly, brace and chassie rails would from two triangles each side, strong structures, especially if the subframe was ridgedly mounted to the chassie rails.

The chassis rails forward of the top subframe mounts are only single skin so I'm definitely going to add something to beef them up. Sorry for no updates this week been busy fighting with my small welder but its nearly all seam welded at the front and I removed the rotten A pillar yesterday ready for its replacement coming next week. Pics to follow.
