Arkade
I'm looking to upgrade my manta a's brakes and keep the standard wheel. A bit of research on the forums seems to suggest that callipers from a Carlton 2.2 are the way to go. Does anyone have any?
rutts
the full carlton 2.2 calipers are like hens teeth now. you can get the calipers off ebay but no sliders to fit them on to your stub axles. there are other carlton calipers that have the sliding bobbing fitting ( standard manta b+c) these may do depending on mileage you do as eventually they will start to sieze up as usual manta one do/did. hope this helps. if you are willing to go 14 inch wheels you can use the usual astra/Vectra caliper conversion with audi or escort discs machined to fit. Arkade
Thanks rutts! I might have to go down that route if their is no other options. Is their any other brakes that can easily go on an A with the original wheels?
Arkade
Have I found the hens teeth? (scroll to the bottom) http://www.brakepartssuperstore.org.uk/contents/en-uk/d12102.html
doveyte2800
Have used brakeparts before and have recommended them on the Manta site. They seem to be able to supply older parts when others cant. You can also used BMW E30 calipers from the same era as these fit straight to the manta stubs. trial fit the calipers then the wheels as you may find you will need a spacer to offset the wheel, its not a great problem. Arkade
That's brilliant! So these BMW E30s fit definitely fit in 13s?
doveyte2800
They are fitted on our A series but as I said you have to be careful of the offset of the wheel. We run a 16mm offset wheel as against the standard 32mm ? plus a spacer to overcome any disc/caliper meeting .( the car is used on forest stages, so you get dirt clog up ) ) If you want to equalise the wheelbase use a 18mm spacer on the rear as well. Cant comment on the Carlton calipers as never use them but would guess the similar occurs, also just a thought the standard offset wheel may still fit without changing if you use the spacer. Arkade
Thanks John! Can I ask what discs you are running with them?
doveyte2800
Hi, Using the vented Carlton 2.2 discs, had no problems and relatively cheap, uprated pads are available as well. John

John I always like the fact there is a way around all problems, and the knowledge and trials are passed on to others on the forum
