Mickfrad
Anything I can use to keep my cih manifold bolts tight ? They were all loose when I got the car with one missing, had a look at them this morning and they were all loose again with the front two nearly out. Will locktight handle the heat or does anyone have any other suggestion ? Have thought about some sort of lock tab but these bolts are not the easiest to get at. spiney_norman
I've never had a problem with them coming undone, but I'd go with Loctite or similar if I did
lamchop77
Locate probably won't stand the heat. I nevertheless a problem with them coming loose but access to them is a bit tight. I ended up modding a ring spanner to tighten them properly.
Mickfrad
I thought the same about loctite even though there are some high temperature ones. They were done up tight before but still managed to work loose over time.
Autocrosser
Spring washers?
611
Are they the correct ones? worn maybe? as usually once they are tight they dont seem to come loose. you can get a new set from Thomas http://www.edelschmiede.com/shop/m9-schraubenset-kruemmer-saugrohr-4zyl-opel-cih or i can have a dig around and see if i have a spare new one you could try. mantasrme
I've come across them loose and missing on cars before, i've always put it down to someone not able to fully tighten them previously rather than a design issue. Can be a pain to tighten due to access, but the right combination of socket, u/j and extension does it for me. Just remember to go back over them a 2nd time after you've had the engine up to temp and cooled down again. Never had one i've fitted come loose so either that works or i've been lucky. Mickfrad
Hi Spring washers could work but the bolts already have fixed flat washers on, so would mean a spring and another flat washer on so not sure that would be ideal. Cheers Andy the two that we're missing originally came from you even though used they seemed fine. New bolts may be the way to go. I used different sockets, ujs and a couple of different extension bars to tighten previously but didn't retighten after running up to temp so maybe that could have been a problem after a new gasket. Will check them after running tomorrow and then have to keep an eye on them. Thanks guys
611
Hey Mick Good to know the ones you had from me were ok :-) I used some ones that had socket caps as i found it was much easier to use those as a bit of allen key cut off and a small spanner was much easier to get in between the carbs and get them real tight, but you do need to do a re-tighten. I did it after first run up and then a few weeks after running the car.I always found it was the ones right in the middle that were a bugger to get real tight. If you do still have problems drop me a message and i can see if i still have some left as im sure the set i bought was for a 6 cylinder so had a couple free, but will need to check. mantadoc
Inlet manifold is usually thinner than exhaust so they work loose. (Modified washers how to in MM 20 years ago ish)
611
These are the ones you want, much easier to tighten up :-) http://www.opelgtsource.com/store/6000/6048-A.html Andy
