Starting After A Couple Of Years Rest!

Ok so maybe it was a little much to expect to be able to just put a fresh battery and fuel in and have it start...............

Anyway long story short, i took the manta off the road a few years ago when the fuel damper sprang a leak and started spraying fuel all over the back axle, then i lost job and gf etc and just left the manta for too long.....

Can anyone give me a few idiots guides/pointers, tricks to getting her to live again? in laymans terms please.

I have left the damper out put a fresh battery on and refueled. She turns over but wont start (lucky my engine hasnt seized?), im guessing im still having a fueling problem.

If i cant solve this myself i might have to resort to bribery if anyone lives in the cheshire area?

The car is stored in Crewe

I was gonna get my brother to have a look, and failing that maybe i can bribe some help from here?

Im not very mechanicaly minded when it comes to cars, the three mantas i have owned previously have all just worked so i guess i have been lucky so far.

i havent been able to check spark yet because im on my own,

Yep definitely don't leave the ignition on and use a length of wire with a spade on to trigger the starter solenoid

2P trick, run the fuel pump and make sure that works.

Pat on here is in Crewe he might be able to help.

Get some brake spray (used for cleaning brake shoes ect) Remove the air filter spray into air filter housings (not to much) Then crank engine ,we get engines going all the time this way, the engine will run for short time but it give you clue on what's wrong (fule/spark) ect

I work in Crewe off Wistaston Road, Junction for DB Schenker CW2. I can make arrangements to assist if required.

You got there nut here is the long version http://forums.mantaclub.org/topic/12777-injection-relay-limp-home/

FYI injectors do not fire if you have no spark so before anything else check you have a good spark and that turning the ignition on makes the rev counter twitch, because the green wire from coil amplifier it the one the fuel injection reads.

As per earlier post #6 checking spark is a one man job anyway.

If there is no spark, first things to do are check for ignition live on the black wire and if that's there undo the male and female green wire and put the green from the coil pack on the coil, if it sparks then, then cool, of course the injection won't work like that but you know what the prob most likely is.................

Bodge test

And fix

Of course my favourite way to test the coil pack is with a spare dizzy............

ok another update, i found 2 additional fuel leaks . One is rubber hose into fuel rail and another in what i think is the fuel filter back in the fuel pump assembly. Annoying because i thought i had solved all the problems there......another 5 pounds worth of unleaded on the floor! One good thing though, i heard it fire on one cylinder, which means im getting spark ect, so once iv solved fueling issues in theory it ought to go (if i dont set fire to myself first).

I bought enough fuel line last time to replace them all as its just going to come out at the next weakest link, hard to get at some because the cars stuck in a small garage.
