Paul Barrett
There has been a lot of bad press about dipping, with it weakening the steel over time, with trapped acids in joints etc.
andyc
Here are the others i found http://www.prostrip.co.uk/ http://www.envirostripukltd.com/ I think in the early days there were problems with SPL as they in business to strip heavy equipment such as JCB diggers and the like. They didn't get into the car business until the V DUB found them and it got broadcast on TV and at this point they were still a bit green about doing car shells. These days they seem to got it sorted and the shells are washed alot better to get rid of all the acids in the metal and then it goes of to be E coated which will give you more or less a new shell finish. One thing to remember though is do all your metal work, even if that means getting the shell blasted first then have it dipped and e-coated. All my own projects will always be dipped as there will always be rot inside all the box section and you only need a spot of damp to start the rust off again Cheers Andy
Shug
There has been a lot of bad press about dipping, with it weakening the steel over time, with trapped acids in joints etc. Worse than rust?

upk
Why not put the question to spl and see what they say?
Paul Barrett
I've also spoken to a few guys that have had a poor service from spl on other forum. I have have to say I'd rather have a shell blasted by an experienced company that deal with automotive work mainly.
611
Didn't Derek on here have his whole shell blasted? might be worth seeing what his experience was like and views (https://www.facebook.com/opelmantagtr). i have the whole underside of mine done and it was amazing how clean they got it. if i had had the interior out i think i would have had the whole shell done. and they coated the whole thing in rust proofer. Apart from the dust that was left everywhere inside it was a great job. Not looked into dipping but if they dip it then wash it, i take it that they have to get it straight in and dried and then primer pretty quickly? Just some thoughts on things. andyc
Its not painted but dipped in an anti-corrosion paint the has electrodes attached and the complete shell is submersed in the same way they do at the factory. This means all the inside and outside is coated and comes back to you as if it was a new shell. The shell we done about six years ago is showing no sign of any problems. lamchop77
Place in Preston did my mates mk 2 escorts for 650 quid. That was stripped in an oven at a controlled temp and then dipped for a few days. They jetwash the shell after and spray with a zinc coating that lasts a few weeks. All the rally boys use them when rebuilding their cars allegedly
