Iain Peel
Hi, Does anybody know where to get an C20Xe exhaust manifold to fit a Manta B coupe?? I phoned Retro Power and they aren't making any at the moment. Any advise would be much appreciated.
399 road
Don't buy the fancy looking one from SBD. It's listed as fitting Escort, Sunbeam, Chevette, Manta etc and doesn't fit round Manta suspension. I bought one, tried it and had to return it minus a 20 percent handling charge. Shame as it looked smart. The Ashley XE Mk2 Escort ones almost fit, but catch on your gearbox crossmember. With a bit of cutting and welding they work, but are an expensive thing to chop about. 399 road
I think Ashley did a Manta specific one, but couldn't be sure. The Ashley Mk2 Escort XE ones used to be a sensible price from Rally and Competition equipment in Stoke on Trent but like I said, need work to clear the gearbox crossmember on a Manta B. mantasrme
Rally design list one for the Manta RWD and Escort RWD https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=1385_1386_1399&products_id=10987 made by Ashley. I've fitted 3 or 4 of them over the years and many other people on here have also. They fit as well as any Ashley part, in that they may need a little adjustment with some heat to get them aligned spot on. Pretty sure they just take the welded together parts off the jigs too quickly before they have cooled as everyone i have had has been a little off from the last in angle at the bottom. I also find relieving the curve of the bulkhead just at the seam aids in the space you have for fitting/removing the manifold from the engine. If you want the exhaust as close to the floor as possible then reducing the height of the gearbox mount sides might be required for clearane at the back of the downpipe as its a larger bore than the original 1.
16vGraham
I have an Ashley RWD manifold on my redtop. Had to take a pipe bender to it to make it fit properly between the gearbox and the outrigger. Not cheap but worth the money and the hassle of modifying it.
®evo03
If they knew about surely they would correct it either adjust their jig to allow for cooling, or leave the manifolds to cool. Either way if it does not fit and everyone has to fix it, it cant be a good thing, it seems we call put up with alot. Would a long flexi, further forward, and use the gearbox mount for the first flexi fix for the exhaust pipe work?
