Voltage stabilizer location

I bought a new voltage stabilizer which i was going to attempt to fit today, looking at a previous post it said it's behind the dash and you just pull the old one out. Well i have been on my back and up behind the dash and i can't even see it, mind you it would help if i knew where to look. Is it to the right or left of the speedo or below, if someone can point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated.

If my memory serves me right, remove the binnacle cover and get access to the top left rear of the instrument cluster, it’s a gold coloured rectangle just pushed in, it’s kind of awkward to get at, just take your time.

hi you can get to it from behind  by removing the dash section below the steering column and also the right hand black plastic heater duct . its very fiddly but you can see it if you look up . its roughly behind the oil pressure guage area . its a feel to fit job and all you need  to be sure of is that the pins locate properly .

OTHERWISE

if its too fiddly then take the top dash cowl off ( removing fan and hrw switches and screws first) and then undo the instrument pod and lift it out . you should be able to reach in and get it ( or reach into speedo cable and release furst if not enough room ?)

but definately worth trying from below first !

Good news, i managed to fit the stabilizer today, took off bottom section of dash and heater duct to gain access and you have enough room to get one hand in,

only problem was there were three wires sitting in front of it but after some gentle persuasion got them moved out of the way. Old unit a bit tight to come but managed eventually, fitting the new one was fiddly because you can't see what you're doing and you have to go by touch but got there in the end. Well worth the aggro because i now have a temperature guage that is working normally instead of climbing up to the red.

We are at a point now where I’d be surprised if any original ones are working correctly. I had 5 or 6 in a box and they were all broken. The better one online has been no problem at all. I always take the binicle off to replace them now.

I got my replacement one on ebay, in fact i bought two as they are no money at all and you never know what's round the corner. Nothing wrong with it and is working perfectly. Just for curiosity is there anyone else who supply them because i did look around before finding one.

I’ve not found anyone else other that Edelschmiede but to buy one you’ll pay more for the postage.
