Ems
If my Manta doesn't sell I might fit an auto box to it as I was in quite a bit of pain after driving it yesterday. Is the 1.8 Auto box strong enough for the C20XE and the LSD axle? Is the gearbox tunnel and prop the same? What other parts would I need? Has anyone lowered the steering column on a Manta to get the steering wheel lower? Thank you
®evo03
Did the xe come with a fitted auto red box? You might have to go Carlton or Omega auto box. Then is MV6 and redtop same flywheel? Seen a manual drift car converted to cable pull gear change, unreal, think he only used two gears 2nd and 3rd. Basically one leaver, forward for second, back for third. Both actions worked the clutch master cylinder. Great engineering. Driver was paralysed. What a driver. 👍
Jessopia74
Depends how much lower you want the steering wheel. It’s essentially a little flexible at the bottom fixing as if you unbolt the top 2 fixings, it does allow the column to drop a little into a ‘held’ position, so if you did this and made some alloy spacer blocks, so long as you don’t try to go lower then it should be ok. Any lower and it’s going to need some extra work to the bottom bracket too. The auto box would prob start slipping internally with the c20xe at its full power. It was used in Carlton, but ofc for higher power they switched to larger AR Edited September 23 by Jessopia74
Ems
Thanks for the replies. Looks like more hassle than I expected, I'll leave it as it is.
Sutty2006
Yeah I’m not sure the gm180 can handle its own breath let alone a c20xe. If you did go down that route you’d be better off using an omega auto box that bolts up to the 4 cylinder black top engine.
seanpren
Be interested in LSD if you're thinking of splitting and going back standard with the auto box
Ems
LSD is staying, couldn't imagine driving a Manta without one now.
