Mlocke666
Finally got broadband so can get some pics on here! My current project manta, at least this is what it looked like when I bought it a few years ago - About 2 years ago I started stripping it down to do a simple restoration - Then early last year I bought a vauxhall carlton GSI3000, had a good few months out of it until a motorbiker wrote the thing off. After many months I got the wreck back for about £50 and stripped it completely. I also had the idea of using the majority of the major components in the manta - Membership no. 5571 86 berlinetta (project) 87 GTE 16v (new project) 87 Exclusive (R.I.P) http://www.opelmanta.4mg.com & http://www.opelmanta16v.4mg.com

Mlocke666
Wish I could go to the meet, I start guard this saturday for a week! Damn it! The beasties progressing well, Havent taken photos of my most recent work which was getting the spring mounts welded up. Still loads to do, got the front carlton subframe to fit, the whole carlton gearbox tunnel and of course the engine. Will be using the carlton dash including digital instruments/computer so decided i'll use the carlton wiring loom as well. paulmanta
That is superb, A really complicated bit of fabrication and some serious frame work, should be excellent fun to drive when finished. ----All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be---

maher the hermit
Now thais some serious fabrication work it makes my two 24valvers a bit behind!!! good luck with the wireing your gunna need it more so if your going for an auto box? but i would presume if you have any sense its gunna be manual? this ive gotta see.... m.j.maher
Mlocke666
Ye, Its definately gonna be a manual, just took the box off to make it a little more managable. Wiring should be the easiest part as the entire carlton loom/s are going in, just have to change the plugs for the front & rear lights etc. The big problem I can see is gonna be the bonnet, obviously not gonna clear the top of the engine so a bulge is gonna have to go in my nice new 400 bonnet when it gets here. The next step is the tunnel and getting the powersteering installed. Guest
Mate have you not thought about a simple perspex screen as the bonnet. Its a lot easier to shape around the engine bay and you get to see the work you have put in and also you dont have to chop a 400 bonnett up. Good work tho cant wait to see it in the flesh. Guest
Great stuff. Out of interest, are you using zinc coated steel for your repair work? I'm interested in what causes the white colouration around your welds. Cheers, Joe.
maher the hermit
You do realise over 50% of the carlton loom you wont need and theres nowt worse than wires that dont go no where!! maybe its me being a bit overboard but you have the ABS, ALARM, POWER STEERING,the list goes on which is redundant.. and will you be useing the on board computer? i know mind my own!!and its early days yet eh? and before anyone says wireing to the power steering? yes it has to increase the engine revs when you turn when stationary it sends a signal to the ecu to stop it stalling under pressure.. m.j.maher

Mlocke666
Well cheers for the support! most of my mates (including my dad) think I'm mad taking on such a big project. Joe - No the steel isnt zinc coated, the wire im using is just fencing stuff (which has some coating as it dont rust) as my dad had a load lying around and to be honest by now i'd of spent a fortune on rods and it does the same job. Using oxycetalene welder by the way. Maher - Dont know how much wiring will be redundant, only what was redundant in the original car as everything even the onboard computer is gonna be plumbed in and running - more mods to make the dash fit! Havnt thought about a heater yet. opel2000
Usually i have some sort of comment to make but simply speechless in this case, just don't know what to say, Stunning work and a heck of a task, possibly sums it up for me. http://www.customsolutions.me.uk
Devil Fish
Martyn, you won't need a heater with that lump in the front, it will generate enought heat! If you ever need an extra pair of hands, just give me a buzz and I'll pop over. It will be nice when we've got this car in the line-ups at shows down here, should certainly turn a few heads...[^][^][][]

Moon Monkey
just pull the carpets up... then you'll get some heat... quite disturbing how many times i've burnt my leg on the transmission tunnel whilst wearing shorts.... and the mrs say her feet get rather warm... but as my car is dodgy as hell it may not be the case in a normal manta!!
