Moon Monkey
I hate doing this kind of thing as I don't want to appear pushy... Just wanting to know if we can settle on a date and location to re-shell my car or If everyone has too much on to help out... The only reason I'd like to try to get it sorted is firstly as I have nowhere to store the car and no skills of my own to do it myself I don't want to buy the shell and then have to try to do something with it.. Secondly I would need something sorting by the end of august as that's when everything runs out!!! (How the hell I've managed that I don't know but it makes september a damn expensive month... as well as it being the Mrs' birthday too!!) If people could let me know ASAP so I can let dave know so he can do something with the shell if he wants... also then I can make other arrangements... sorry again if this seems like it being pushy but it's re-shell or sell... mantasrme
If someone has the space it might be best to do it in 2 parts. First the body men can get together to weld up and prep the shell, then on another weekend bring the donor car down and swap all the running gear across to it. The second weekend can even be a different group (well apart from whoever's place it is []) If i had less projects and more time i had thought about doing some of the welding myself. But i'm no where near as neat at that as some of the other people who wanted to get involved in the work. http://www.mantasport.co.uk OMOC no:3325
opel2000
Right then. Got 2 offers of workshops, possible favourite would be one in Coventry, as it has a lot more space than the one in Leicester. Personally I could not do a re-shell on my drive, as I have nowhere for my V8 at the moment until I can get my garage cleared and wife now has car too. Will be seeing person next week about his garage/worjshop to see what he says, main problem being that someone is going to be left with a piece of scrap on their doorstep. I am available pretty much any weekend at the moment up to the end of August. Also will have a word with Joe, as he did mention that it could be possible to do it at his place, he has a scrap bloke that will remove almost instantaneously I was led to believe http://www.customsolutions.me.uk

Rick-Manta
If work on the motor happens in Coventry, then I'd be happy to lend a hand too, if needed. I'm looking at learning to weld, but I'd be best suited to unbolting and fitting parts over to the new shell, plus I get trade discount on some performance and styling parts if this is of interest to Mr. Monkey for the 'pimped' manta. Is the new shell with log book and numberplate Steve? I think it'll be nicer if B934 RJA was kept as you can have before and after pics of it and it'll save MOT, tax and insurance changeover. Also, does the new shell have it's wiring loom still in it as this would really kill the time availiable?
Moon Monkey
want to keep the same plates for definate!! i'm contemplating asking a welder to "plate" over the chassis number[:I][:I] and change the vin plates over on the front end... I'm planning an engine swap in the not too distant future (any time up to 2 years that it!![:I][:I]) so I'm not really looking for anything too flash... I do have some cunning plans that i may or may not do... depending on how brave/adventurous i decide to be with what i'm looking to do to the car... I have a little ICE project that I'm looking to start once the reshelling has taken place hopefull with some extremely specialised bling from a certain custom solutions... Like I said before if anyone needs any parts that I don't i would like if possible to chop them off... i.e. the roo is good apart from the hinge bits... but it's a non sunroof model!! P.S. This will probably make a major Manta Magic Article!!! OMOC NE Area Rep... omocne@hotmail.co.uk
entwistlecymru
A bit of a long shot I know but I have a looooooong drive and double garage that can be made empty (just my SRB and Beetle to shift). Problem being that I'm in West Wales BUT if you pick the right weekend the views will more than make up for the journey. Steve should know the way too - he managed to find me in the fog! 79 SRB coupe - anyone know what a B230FT is?, 79 Cav saloon - 16v sleeper, 1986 GT/E hatch in red street camo colour scheme, 198? Moon Monkey
i think i'd rather take the long dull motorway route rather than nearly falling off a mountain a couple of times!! while i remember... dave... what colour is the car? just cause i'm gonna get some spray on the bodykit and the wings that'll be going on the car... mantasrme
The shell would be white at the moment [] This is my favourite picture, Solid chassis rails [][] Once i've sorted out the brakes on my subaru i'm thinking of rolling it in the garage to have a good look/ poke around and check it out. Might even break out my new angle grinder and wire brush attachment to see how bad certain bits are [:0] Will keep you updated as i go along. http://www.mantasport.co.uk OMOC no:3325
Moon Monkey
i was meaning is it polar white or glacier white or whatever coour... cause I'm gonna clean thebodykit up a bit and possibly get it sprayed before going on the car... tho white and blue might look quite good... hmm... I can't make the 1st weekend in august due to work...[xx(][xx(][xx(] 2nd weekend is the manta mee but i'm sure they won't miss me to much... Rick-Manta
White!? Why not go for some really fancy one-off colour, flip tone or just anything to make the project look a complete tranformation? Being a bare shell is the best opportunity for a colour that you really want, unless of course you want glacier white in which case you're in luck. Anyone got a spray gun and air compressor? Moon Monkey
the reason i want to leave it white is cause at least once a month some chav tw@t walks down the roads with his keys out.... we're talking about 30 cars or more keyed all the way down... i want a colour that i can at least get a half decent match too... also as it's already white then it's more of a touch up than a respray... was planning a full shell respray on the origional heap but i don't need to do that now!! also... what condition is the roof in??? i've just realised it now has a sun roof....
