Patience of a saint to drill those holes out Paul :) Measure 3 times cut once :) Id like to see more of a solid mount for the slave cylinder there. Because the 2 studs are above central I fear the nose of the bearing "may" pull down slightly ans cause issues. If the studs are just mock up carry on and i'll get me coat

I have got an aching arm after all those holes on the pillar drill, as I'm sure you will know with ally it's not as quick to drill as you might think as used a flat almost mill type bit to stop it clagging up, but with that takes longer!

At a bit of a standstill atmo, waiting for the front bush set I've ordered a few weeks ago now from http://www.ysn.de aparently they are waitin on a couple of the bushes from supplier/manufacturer. Once I have them I can dry build the from subframe and build in some compression struts like Paul's old v8. Then get it all epoxy coated up

With a coilover in rough position, need to work out how to mount this and mend the cracked arm mounting points!! Didn't spot that when they were blasted

good job they were blasted so you can see those cracks. if they had been coated you would have missed it all together. Good progress tho. Are you going to strengthen the shock mounts now that all the spring force now goes through the 2 mounting holes?

Hi tony,

Yeah glad that fatigue was spotted, I'll be plating up big style now I've witnessed how thin the steel is! I have to adapt the arms and upper mounting anyway so it would be a given they get strengthened. Howse your build(s) coming along?

yeah cool. Mine are going painfully slow at the mo, ive also got dolly sprint trouble so engine rebuild needed

Tony

Oh dear, well you would go and buy a triumph!

On the upside, at last my front bush set has arrived from young timer service-nord! Got quite excited this morning like a little kid, only a set of bushes, but when you've been waiting so long.....

Had to enlarge the mounts for a larger m12 hex head bolt

Rose joint mount possible position, need to mount the coilovers really at this point to see the upper and lower limits of travel and make sure this pivot has full movement

Some good progress this weekend overall

Repair done to both cracked subframe arms

EAE2D425-AE5E-4F10-AE9E-80F91DC01600_zps

Welded inside and out

Subframe all built up, will dismantle and get it all epoxy painted, may stitch weld all the seams on the main frame too and see if I can add any more strength anywhere

Also may add some brackets to add a rollbar in the future....just in case

Very impressed with your progress, assume you have an engineering back ground?

Thanks, but Im no engineer, I'm just very enthusiastic! Wish I went down the engineering route, instead I chose a Mickey Mouse degree in environmental managent, have ended up as an electrician now running my own business of all things.

managed to finish a job early today so set about getting the subframe ready for paint, got some 3mm plates welded on the suspension topmount holes to beef them up, cleaned up with a wire wheel and degreased thoroughly, masked up bushes etc,

AEFF31E3-2293-425B-ADBE-DC8A2DC9B208_zps

then set about spraying some epoxy mastic paint, strange stuff to work with, thinned it down to a spray able consistency, but it seems like you can make it run or lay on too thick, I was being over cautious, so just got on with a thick couple of coats!

It's drying well, I have missed a couple of bits where hasn't quite covered enough for my liking, can't wait to get it built up with new and refurbed bolts, feels like epic progress for a change.

not much of an update as been busy with wedding organisation and stuff,

but managed to pickup some carlton gsi discs for a bargain £19 each!, mahoosive discs, need the centres machining out to fit the Monza hubs, but will be ideal with brembo callipers I have in mind to use (pug 406 v6 jobbies)

Picked up my flywheel today after having the bolt holes elongated. I wanted it dead accurate and Dave at ADR hillside has done a lovely job

Just need some bolts and a clutch now, probably some ARP bolts apparently 4age ones fit

On close inspection The friction surface could do with a skim as looks rather glazed, would a wizz in the blast cabinet with some fine grit do the trick?

Now back from honeymoon and back into swing of it with work, and last day of hols had a few hours at the retro show Santa pod has spurred me on for more progress.

Been getting the front end built up, hit se issues already with the awkward assembly of the coilovers having to have spacers to centralise them, these will be arse to change springs when the subframe is bolted to the chassis

Especially the top ones, I think I'm going to do away with the rubber bush and use 2 piece poly bush with some stepped tubes if you get my drift
