hi,i'm one of the suffolk members,i've got a 16v manta coupe thats been off the road for about 7 years but i'm making concerted effort to get it back on the road.not sure if it will be ready for the 30th but would still like to meet up with you guys.is it still on for the 30th?

martin

Hi Martin, hope you make good progress on your car.

Assuming we get the interest I'm hoping for here, yes mate, should be on for the 30th. I'm hoping to be down the Lodge that night anyway, so any additional Manta's or owners would be welcome. As I said, it's a general classic car night down there anyway, I thought would be just a good opportunity for a few of us to get together there.

Hi dave

I'm based near canterbury in Kent,

And I have not seen another manta in these parts.

If you do have a meet I could be tempted over the water! I'm not scared to let the car stretch its legs and do it bit of a journey!

Let me know where and when, preferably with a post code so I can find you.

Hi Dave,

I already have a commitment on the 30th but will see if I can rearrange it.

On my way to pick up the car as its just passed its MOT.

Mark

Good news Mark. Be good to see your car at last. Nice to catch up with you Sunday. Let me know about the 30th ASAP if you can?

I'm open to suggestions of other evenings or dates people can arrange to re-consider if it's easier? Especially as it might be we have more takers than I was expecting, which is great.

Brian, you'd be more than welcome to come to sunny Essex and meet up. Like you, Manta's are few and far between here, so the more the merrier.

Will keep this thread going and we'll work it all out. Just waiting to here from Paul & maybe Barry, and we can fix this date?

Hi Paul, yes managed to get home before it rained too hard. Was only lightly spotting as I left about 3.45pm ish. Good to see you and Barry there mate.

Right chaps, lets pencil this in for the 30th then, at The Lodge in Hayes Chase, Battlesbridge. It's only round the corner from where the show was Sunday! Full address here:-

The Lodge Country Inn

Hayes Chase, Burnham Road (A132)

Near Battlesbridge, Essex, SS11 7QT.

This co-incides with a large classic car meet for Chelmer Valley Car Meet, so hopefully they'll be room there for us out the back of the car park. If we say from 7pm? That's when the general meet there starts, so might get busy if it's a nice evening.

I'll text Rob who had the GTE hatch at Battlesbridge also and let him know.

Be good to see you all down there chaps. I'll drop a reminder during the week. All ok for everyone?

ok so we seem to be getting a good amount of interest in this,i find it all very encouraging and it shows there is a die hard group of manta fans out there in this corner of the uk.

after such a long period of inactivity in these parts ,is making me think about taking up the role of se area rep after all.

the only reason really i have not done so before now is i remember how tirelessly val entwisle had worked on phoning people and e mailing people to see who was up for attending a meet ,and when the meet came round invariably it was always her and just myself and of course later on you dave.

perhaps we can do something jointly dave ,we can discuss when i see you .

I think that might work Paul, been talking to Simon P about it. Can't do it on my own, but a role share would work maybe? Lets see how many we get down on the 30th and catch up then?

I'll send out PM reminders nearer the time. Hope all can make, could be the start of a Manta renaissance in Essex/Suffolk/Kent!! Lol

I best bring my camera!! I make that 9 Manta's as possibles down the Lodge. Doubt we'll make that many, but I haven't seen that many in one place since Billing 2010!!

Dave,

I am struggling a bit to make the 30th and if I ds gert there, it won't be until about 8.30pm by the time I get home from, work and get there.

On the plus side, the Manta is on the road and had a small shake down and performed well although its running a bit too warm for my liking and i am wondering if the heater matrix is maybe a bit passed it. More investigations I think. Not sure if anyone has seen this but it runs at about 3/4 over the temp gauge and when you switch on the heater is cools down a bit. I'll try swapping the thermostat first and maybe a couple of the other gauge fixings to see if that makes a difference. Hopefully get it done next Sat and then go for a test drive!

I also have Rob's no., the other guy from Battlesbridge in case you didn't get it and I was going to text him re the meet.

Speak soon.

Mark

Hi Karl, nice to hear from you. Please do come along, I'm starting to be really surprised by how many Manta's there are around here creeping out the woodwork. Like you, I hadn't seen another one in years until the Battlesbridge show a couple of weeks ago, and that prompted me to resurrect this thread.

Expect a lot of classics down there next Thursday, so will try and make some room right down the back of the car park area somewhere. Hope to see you there.

Going to try to get down for this.

Be great to see you Simon. Straight run down the A12 and then A130, it's about 3/4 mile off the Rettendon Turnpike towards South Woodham Ferrers on the left if you're not sure.

Fingers crossed for good weather, and enough room for all these Mantas, as there's often 50+ classics down there anyway!! Might have to consider another venue for next time if this takes off!!

Nice to see 6 Manta's down the Lodge tonight, and nice to meet you Karl, Davo, John & Dom. Sorry it was a later than expected arrival for me, but these modern cars breaking down, it's just not good enough!! Will be commuting in the Manta tomorrow. I didn't get any pics, but be good to see some of yours Simon that your daughter was busy taking??

Nice to see you Paul and Barry, and great to see Simon P down also, good to catch up with you all, albeit too briefly by the time I got there. Apologies for your 'experiences' in the pub Simon, open to suggestions for change of venue next time?

Sorry you couldn't make it MarkB1, but I think we're all on for another pre-billing meet at the end of June aren't we? Any suggestions on dates and venues gratefully received?

I'm really pleased to see so many Manta owners keen to meet up in the South East. Lets keep this up! Thanks chaps.

ATB, Dave
