ASCONAN
Hello everyone! My name is Dimitris and I live in Heraklion of Crete island, Greece. I am also one of the administrators of the Greek OPEL-CLUB.GR, having organized quite a few national RWD Opels meetings (I will in the near future post photos from our events too!) Thought to join your forum as I am also possessed by the Ascona/Manta/Kadett ghosts (and generally the old 70s/60s Opel ghosts ) So, I'm the happy owner of 2 beauties: 1) A white 4-door Ascona B with a stock c20ne engine on it and an R25 gearbox for everyday use (My father bought this car first-hand in 1979 as a 1.2 and I restored it in 2003. I was brought home as a baby with this car when I was born in 1981!). 2) A red 2-door Ascona B with a 2.7 CIH engine on it that I bought in January 2011. Not much to say 'bout the c20ne of course, but there are some things I can say about the 2.7! So, here we go: Engine displacement: 2.678 cc Venolia Pistons (97mm) PPM Racing rods 2.3 Diesel crank (90.6mm) Compression Ratio: 11,5:1 Valves: 47/40 (Intake/Exhaust) Exhaust: 63,5mm Fuel Management: Weber DCO/SP 50mm Intake Manifolds by "Oikonomou - Askri" (Greek Company) Camshaft: Dbilas 326° w/ Kent springs Ignition: MSD Engine head ported Transmission: Getrag 240 Gearbox M3 E30 Clutch Kit Commodore A rear axle with LSD (friction plates). LSD percentage unknown (I think it is 40% - used to own a 4-serie ZF LSD in the past but that's gone). Inside the cockpit there is also a sweet Innovate AFR gauge to keep us safe from mishaps a few photos: My Ascona and I when I was 12 or so? In front of Meteora, Greece: The white one BEFORE restoration: DURING restoration: AFTER restoration: Here along with my good friend George's 4-door Kadett C V6 (X25XE): Having an Opel has its benefits too (that's my dad and me in the OPEL-CLUB.GR stand in a car exhibition in Crete in 2007) Older attempts that never were completed (a c30se conversion but I finally sold the whole thing and started the 2.7 CIH project)
ASCONAN
And let's go to the red devil now, shall we? Engine parts: Pics of the car: and a video: and another video: I think that's a lot for now! Hope you like it... Time to sleep! Best regards everyone! lamchop77
Asconan Firstly nice motors, and also ii'm glad to see the red one running a CIH lump!!! Question for you though, what head gaskets are you using with the 2.7? I assume that the bore is 97mm or so. I'm still in the process of building 2 CIH motors a 2.3 long stroke which is nearly sorted (need a bit more cash to finish!!) and also a 2.5. The 2.3 has a cometic headgasket for 97mm bore pistons but they are expensive so i'm looking for a cheaper, but reliable alternative. Also more info on the ignition system that your using would be helpful, its the last bit i need to sort for the 2.3. Fully mappable is a bit out of budget at the moment!! Thanks Chris Edited February 1, 2013 by lamchop77
ASCONAN
My congrats to the best opel admin i've ever seen lollol what are you doin' here?! Thanks again bro! Asconan Firstly nice motors, and also ii'm glad to see the red one running a CIH lump!!! Question for you though, what head gaskets are you using with the 2.7? I assume that the bore is 97mm or so. Thanks a lot for your kind words m8! CIH way is the ONLY way! (nevermind that everyday c20ne I put in the white one, a CIH will be back under that hood again one day) Now, concerning your questions: I DON'T know what head gasket Stelios put in there (Stelios is my mechanic). As far as I know it's 1mm thick. He was talkin' about a "handmade" one in he beginning but I think he finally ended up with a specific brand. I'll ask him. Risse has some good gaskets but "he's a med shop" (free and funny translation of a Greek saying, meaning he's expensive as hell). Ignition? I have MSD 6A with the MSD Blaster 2 Coil + the superconductor spark plug wire set. The whole set should cost ya roughly around 400 euros (Around 350 quid) - that's the price you can find them for here in Greece PS: Yeah, bore is 97mm, stroke is 90.6 (Diesel Crank). Total 2.678cc Edited February 3, 2013 by ASCONAN
