rutthenut
Wow, axle ratio of 5.1:1, that's low-geared. Guess the tyre diameter is a bit bigger on the 400 wheels, but speed what will it be geared for? Assume max for rallying would be 120 or so? Autocrosser
Yeah should be somewhere thereabouts you don't need much more than 110-120mph for rallying. The xe that's going in should rev to 8-8.5k. My mates grp4 escort is the same set up but with 13" wheels and it cracks 100 ok. Your v8 will be lower revving so you'd probably not get away with a 5.1 I'm guessing probably a 4.2 would suit a v8 better

Ok, it has reasonable torque but that does make for quite a limited rev range, especially in lower gears. As I'm using a Manta axle, either standard or GT/E ratios will do fine, even if not ideal. Plenty more important things for me to address first! Edited April 21, 2014 by rutthenut
spike
You made the right choice Craig. Not cheap but you can pick up the phone and get anything for it,try doing that with a 400 axle. You wont be waiting for the halfshaft to break now. Spike

rutthenut
That is certainly different to the small tunnel mods earlier in this post! Four-link boxes definitely need some space, as well as the prop tunnel.
Autocrosser
Fair bit of work involved but well worth it. Got the modified bottom arm mountings to weld up and fit skids to them. Hopefully have it all welded up this weekend
Autocrosser
Got the bottom arm mounts welded up tonight. Bottom arms to strengthen and the panhard rod to shorten next. This is my take on a 400ish rear end

rutthenut
Making me envious now. Wishing I had the skill (and time, money, facilities in suitable mix) to do that great work you've been doing on this car. Looking forward to continuing to see it come together.

Autocrosser
Today I got the one bit of the car I wasn't happy with sorted. The replacement A pillar once cleaned up was still rusting from the inside out......not any more! It's the last bit the welding is now finished

Autocrosser
It's a sad day indeed John. Motorsport's a spectacle to be enjoyed by competitors and fans alike and days like this thankfully are few and far between. My heart goes out to the those involved and there family's.
