Hi Craig,

A guy rang me a few months ago looking for a shell, presume same one.

You need some black boot polish round the light surrounds to bring them back up.

Be good to see her on the stages.

Been a while since my last update but got a half day at it today. Started digging out and fitting up the ancillaries to the engine just to make sure I've got everything and that it all fits. First problem was the dry sump pump mounting bracket, being from a FWD installation it used one of the RWD engine mount holes so I had to fabricate a new one as unbelievably QED don't do a Rwd bracket!!

Just about ready for fitting

Got the exhaust manifold to adapt from 8v to 16v and then it's ready to go in.

If anyone wants to do a swap I have have a good manifold to fit an OHC 2.0 8v SEH motor I'm going to cut the flange off and weld a 16v one on in a week or so's time so if you need one get in touch before I give it the chop

Looking back at your pics, those perspex window frames look really neat and tidy. Did you get them as part of a window kit, or make them yourself? Mine are bulky, ugly and really ineffective so if alternatives are available I'd be interested in finding out more.

They came with the car John already fitted to the doors. There 10mm square box section and protrude about 2/3 of the way down inside the door and are bolted through there. My last ones where exactly the same. I'd try smith and deakin who still make fiberglass doors they must know who you can get some

more photos Craig, car looks a cracker, black really suits a manta, always did, don't know why people paint em white

can you post detailed photos of the window frames, look top notch,

with photos, be interesting to see from a rally mans perspective, whats needed to make a rally car, photos of each item,

say: seat rails, door frames, cage plates, dash, seem welds, wee personal details etc.

basically what you need to do to convert a road going manta for the stages.

ps, I will look for that graphics disk over xmas and contact you.

cracking job, keep up the good work.

Thanks Matt I'll get some pics sorted for the window frames.

msa blue book keeps you right for the safety aspect and the rest is picked up from looking at other cars and experience of what breaks also club members are a wealth of knowledge especially from old school car prep from when these cars ruled the roost. I'm no expert (far from it) in just a joiner with a liking for old rally cars!!

Graphics disc would be awesome mate cheers :)

Hi Craig,

I did try Smith & Deakin but they don't make those and didn't know anyone who does.

Those on your car do look very neat and tidy - as does the result of the rebuild, I might add - so I will add that to the list of things that *might* get done one day on my car. That is a very long list ...

looks like you have made some good progress on the build. that gearbox looks realy good, i bet that set you back a few pennys.

It wasn't too bad mick I sold the clubman box and it wasn't too bad to upgrade money wise it just took a little while to get my hands on this particular box. I wanted this one as 2 of my mates have owned it so I know it's history.

i like the look of a good exhaust manifold. i have seen some exhaust manifold porn on some cars.

Some of the millington and tony law stuff is impressive. I made the last one from a kit yukspeed sells and it was a better fit than this one which came with the car. Floor had a bash in it where the manifold passes and I repaired it when I did the bodywork now the bloody thing needs bashed back in again as the manifolds nearly touching.

D'oh

She's so old Matt she doesn't need a fog light for mot, there's no wires in the rear loom for it either ( good tip tho!)

Are you on Facebook?i saw pics of Kieran O Kane's tarmac Ascona, it's well advanced and is using macphearson struts on the front picked up at the top mounts with the cage in semi space framed style. Now that's something...... What I'm doings pretty much all tried and tested and I've picked up ideas from other people's cars,
