rutts
GAZ shocks are probably best bargain that are overlooked in this dept. give them a ring. multi adjustable and rebuild able.
Jason b
^Agreed - insane value for money. I have a set fitted all round on my cav.
parkysmanta
Same I've got a full set on mine, really under estimated dampers, fully adjustable and shortened, mine came to about £57 each, dampertech give them a ring and they should have all the info from my setup. shooie811
I had the mini shocks on the front of mine there off the rear of an austin mini about 3 1/2inch shorter
Robert1234
I've given gaz a call, they can do me a full set for 266 delivered. The front dampers bottom out, makes a rather chunk conjuring noise.

Robert1234
That's cheap, these will 100% fit a manta B on the front? Rob
Robert1234
Update on this, the shocks for the rear of a classic mini do fit with some "modifications" (bodgery). I got the GMAXX ones, so for future reference yeah they're a good cheap fix if you want to go low but haven't got deep pockets. Rob
Daveyboy20
What bodgery did you have to do to get the mini shocks to fit? Is my mk1 Cav the same as your manta unnderneath? How much of the cone can I cut off if I fit the mini shocks? Thanks!
Robert1234
I believe the mk1 cav is just a manta, on the mini dampers where the bottom end of the damper bolts to the top of the wishbone it is narrower than a manta damper. Also I believe I chopped about 2 inches off the cone. At first I tried to push the sleeve out of the manta dampers but the sleeves seemed to be stuck to the bush somehow, so that idea went out the window, it destroyed the standard bush and also when I tried to push the sleeve out of the mini dampers it seemed like it would do the same. You may have more luck, I might try it another day. The averagely bodge method would be take a sleeve from an original damper and then cut it to use as spacers for each side of the new dampers. I had to go to work so I didn't have the time for this so I just spaced it out with washers, this is THE bodge artist way of doing it, I'll probably get round to sorting it one day....... .....if I can be bothered. Daveyboy20
Brill cheers mate, that's not too bad - seen much worse! So if you cut 2inchrs off the cone dio the original shocks very easily bottom out?
Robert1234
Yeah if you cut the cone down the standard dampers will bottom out a lot, they also won't work at that height at all so you get this horrid bounce.
Daveyboy20
Oh, are those gmax mini shocks very firm? I'd hate to go to all this trouble to find out it's just as uncomfortable! Do you have any pics of your car and setup?
Robert1234
They are quite firm yes, slightly annoying as I now have more understeer than before, maybe just get some standard mini ones rather than the gmax?
Daveyboy20
Update on this - did the job, fitted a pair of gmax mini shocks and cut the towers down - the ride is now like a magic carpet in comparison! Now here's the confusing bit :/ the ride height on the passenger side has dropped about another inch! Now before, there was a minuscule amount of travel - maybe 1/8 of an inch at most but there WAS travel ie: the spring was holding up the car, (just) and not the bump stop.... So how has it happened?! It's now lopsided scrubs the arch on one side when parking :/
Kevin Abbott
Has the spring snapped now it's being used as opposed to being held up on the bump stops therefore no load? It's easy to snap a coil off and can be hard to see
