WEBBER CARB SET UP INFO

Hi everyone.

I was wondering if anyone  could help me out.

I have recently  fitted a new webber 32/36 dgv  to my 77 coupe.

I know that  these are a common  replacement for the  original  carb's.

But I was wondering if anyone  out there  could help me out in relation to  the mixture  screw adjustment .

Please can  anyone  tell me how many turns of the mixture  screw it should be  in relation to the car running it's best.or at least a good  starting point towards it running  better.

The mixture  screw at the moment  is screwed  out 2 complete turns from the stop position.

But it doesn't feel right and seems to be sooting the plugs up quite  quickly

If anyone  could  give me  any  pointers or advice to try and sort my carb out.

I would be very  grateful.

Cheers Stuart.

Just checked my Haynes manual specialised on Weber carburettors.

Your carb is included together with some lookalikes.

The chapter "adjustments" and "tuning"is rather heavy, the part tuning refers back to adjustment

and so on...

I can scan the pages and mail them to you, it is in English so not a problem for you!

That would be  fantastic.

My email address  is Stuartjkelly@hotmail.com.

I appreciate your help and advice

I don't think that  I am  a million  miles away  from  getting  it right.

But I just  want to  get it sorted  out.

Cheers Stuart.

Thanks for letting me know. I  really appreciate it.

My carb is new.

So when I get some  dosh I will  get it rolling roadedicated.

That way it will be spot on.

I was just hoping that  some  one  might remember  how many turns they turned there mixture  screw  out to get mine as close to been perfect.

I will  let you know  how I go on.

Cheers Stuart.

Sorry I forgot to ask how much is a rolling road these  days.

Right then done a few of these in my time and need to see if I can remember.

If I remember correct, the mixture screw is turned out until the engine starts to "hunt" or run too rich for a smooth idle.

Then the Mixture screw is turned back in until engine note becomes steady.

Idle screw is then turned in (after already being backed out) to lean out the idle.

Apologies but this is the best I can remember, but it is the leaning out of the carb where you need to progressively turn in the mixture and idle screw, to give you the smoothest running.

Dead simple and brilliant Carbs, and if you follow the above steps you should quite easily get there. the thought of mixture screw being out by 2 full turns as a base setting rings a bell. just give it a go you'll get there. I had a 2.0S rolling roaded with one of these carbs as I couldn't get a smooth enough idle, turned out I had increased flow through the engine so much that it was pushing out over 130BHP that they had to put in different idle jets.

F**k me never thought of using my old mate Google..... Not as clear as the instructions I was supplied with my DGV's  but it is all there....

As a thought does anyone know off hand whether these are still available new... As at one time Weber produced a whole conversion kit for the cih and it really was a brilliant kit. Last time I tried to buy one back in 2007 I struggled to even get hold of a DGV Carb, and was told by various suppliers that "Weber had stopped production of the DGV/DGAV" IIRC I sourced one form a US supplier that was intended to be fitted to a Jeep, which was a common conversion in the US Apparently.

OMG Snowy, Cheers mate, how so damn cool and refreshing to know these are still available... It gives me options when looking for a Manta, I loved these carbs.

If you want one for the 1.8 just look at the options for the cavaliers.

I have finished ( almost) the restoration of my mantas Engine 13S.  I bought a new Weber carb too ( 32/34 DMTL) and i am waiting for a timing light and for a digital RPM meter. Then i will have the tools to follow the procedure to adjust correct the static advance, the idle and the mixture.

Just be sure to have all possible vacum leaks sealed and no air enters after the throtle
