Jonathan Pounsett
I refurbished a front crossmember a while ago and I’ve just noticed that the braces that run from the crossmember back to the chassis rails are slightly different. Initially I thought they were damaged! Does anyone know; When they changed - which years had each type? Why they changed? Are they interchangeable? GTEPETE
Checked a pair of NOS I have and they match the lower one...may be the narrowing (if this is what you are referring to) looks more pronounced as they are shiney...
cam.in.head
checked a few of mine. no difference in any shape wise except : later ones ( presumably) have a brace welded across near the steering rack bolt hole and they also have a reinforced welded on washer for thesame bolt hole too. otherwise i think its the shiny paint thats making it look different as mentioned above.
Jessopia74
Could have been an aftermarket replacement , although it does look like it's bent as it's got a bulge that would not expect to be there in the forming process.
cam.in.head
just had a look under both of mine for you. all have the bulge . ps and if you dont mind me saying " thats a damm fine rubber bush you got in there. did you change it or is it the original. they seem to last forever anyway but are an absolute bugger to change ! Jonathan Pounsett
You worried me @Jessopia74 but I’ve check too and they’re all like that. The bulge gives spanner/socket clearance on the other side. I’ve put a straightedge across both the old and new and guess what? They’re exactly the same. 😁 The light and the shine just make them look different. Thats an old bush @cam.in.head but its not necessarily the original -it may have been replaced buy a previous owner.
