2.4 8v CIH is a good base, plenty of upgrade paths and parts still available. and get saving up to build a 16v conversion with it for the future 😎

Aw mate its the parts that are the issue,I'd love to get my hands on a 2.4 and convert the c30 head to fit however its unrealistic. The Risse head was starting off at 10k so I have to get real.

The engine iv got running sweet mate and the engine conversion will be getting done after its painted in July.

I'm undecided between the let or the xe however more so with the xe on carbs and type9 box with LSD.As much as I hate the fact of attatching a ford part to it but have no choice the ratios and upgraded type 9 seems ideal.

Il start buying bits that I need soon once I go firm on what engine buddy its just a headache deciding 🤣

Type 9 does give a shed load of options for internals tbh and a tried and trusted box.

Yea im kinda settled on the box,im sure il go the xe route with a decent amount of power, stafford do a decent 2.3 lump so when I'm back home il strengthen the swan necks just in case 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Other option is SAAB B234 , but not sure about swan knecks even needing to be strengthened, perhaps seem weld/stiching a little 😎

Aw mate iv looked into the saab, the Le even the 2.4 route and risse head just wasn't willing to pay 10k for a bare head its madness.

Il go the xe route and tbf iv spent that much time and cash already I may as well do the best I can with the transplant il go xe with carbs, undecided on the millington block its an option at 4 k it's pricey and by the time your done I'd guess not much change out of 15k to build,im guessing even a half decent build on an xe is near on 8k minimum.

Feck it mate its only 3000 pints of Stella when you look at it🤣🤣 parts are easily sorted and plentiful other than the 1.8 parts,il go uprated ford box, sump can source other than 1.8,mounts easily enough, dizzy maybe an issue but il sort something out.

Il see mate il maybe buy the block and crank before I come home and tell the misses she's not going on holiday Feb 🤣🤣🤣

As I am building my own 16v, I guess I will save money. But your right in costs. I estimate 10-12K for it completed, but that does compare well with a decent 2.3/4 XE engine, hence the route. Advantage with going XE route is you can slowly upgrade it over time and plenty parts are avail e as they are very popular with the grass trackers. 300bhp N/A is achievable and the progressive torque will not kill the type9, but that can be upgraded too. Reason why the mk2 escort rally boys used this engine/gearbox combo !

I do still have an XE, but that might go in the AsconaA when done, not sure yet as I did fancy building a 2.0ne turbo 😂

Yea way forward mate iv started the ball rolling with the xe already, plod along with that as I go but the cars at the stage of the bodyshop when I get back home anyhow, interiors in getting sorted, few days work swapping the drums to discs and fitting willwoods on the front then the pros can sort the bodywork out.

I got the engine running sweet and il cope with the manual choke and 50hp for now its a trip down memory lane 🤣
