redhatchrab
Currently restoring Opel manta gte, engine has been rebuilt and fitted. Engine started no problem however stopped (manually) in a few minutes as no radiator fitted at the time. Now that the radiator is fitted and new fuel regulator valve has been fitted the engine will no longer start. Any ideas on what could be the problem? thanks
Mickfrad
If it started before the fuel regulator was fitted that would be my first check.
H-400
As mick mentioned above, check also the feul lines maybe you switched them. If everything looks ok spray some start pilot or brake cleaner into your manifold, if it runs for a second you know your ignition is OK. (don't spray in the AFM, backfire can ruin it)
redhatchrab
Thanks for those who have replied. The problem seems to be no vacuum at the fuel regulator to allow it to open. Any other ideas as to what could be causing this.

It’s open all the time even with vacuum pipe removed (high vacuum reduced the pressure slightly)
®evo03
Hayes manual is wrong on fuel pipes, it's regulated on the return so it holds pressure in the rail. Also check earths are on.
Rick H
Had a similar problem with my GTE. Stopped it then it wouldn't start again (AAHHH!). After several key turns I realised I coudn't hear the pump, all fuses looked good but I gave them a waggle anyway. Waggled the 5th or 6th fuse from the left, the pump came alive & the engine started (Phew).
Sutty2006
As Rick said, check feed to fuel pump. You’ll need a spare pair of hands to turn the key as you check for voltage. If you don’t get any voltage, check your relay. It should be bolted to the right hand inner wheel arch. You can bypass it by putting a 2p piece between its fuse and the one next to it. If that works, you need to get your relay repaired. It’ll be a dry solder inside probably.
