Redtop coilpack type XE engine for sale

due to my best mate moving house, (which is where its currently residing), and also not needing it anymore, I'm selling a Redtop coilpack XE type engine, that I bought from Ebay about two years ago.

bought from VauxPartsUK, a Vauxhall and Saab parts specialist based in Gravesend in Kent, as a spare engine, in case I want to switch from my 2.7 CIH at some point in the future, but after consideration, I've decided to stick with the CIH.

As I bought it in March 2022, the details are no longer available on Ebay, but as far as I remember, it was described as "condition unknown, but turns over by hand".

I'm looking for what I paid which was £763 including postage. if I get no response I'll sell it on Ebay.

its a 2.7 Evo, built from a Mantzel crank that I acquired many moons ago; all of which I've mentioned about elsewhere on this forum. its currently, (along with the car), in the hands of David Mantasport Howell, having an Emerald K6 ECU upgrade + setting up/mapping.

I bought the redtop in case I wanted to go down that route in the future, seeing as the CIH is "past it" in terms of its technology. but I've decided to stick with it, as its relatively low milage, and I dont have to replace the gearbox with the 1.8 type, which is ridiculously rare these days.

this is the photo of the redtop that was in the original Ebay listing:

Alot of parts missing if keeping SFI and injection, in photo. Really are a great economical engine if not modded.

I was lucky to remove both my engines without damaging, very carefully. Even managed to wire a EML, flash code.

2.7 with cut down 1.6v head would be passing everything 🤣😎

Is this the value of XE engines now? I’ve been wondering how much they’re worth if I ever converted back to 8 valve.

Depends what it is, earlier ones with COSCAST head and stronger cranks worth more

Mines coscast head with later coil pack ignition setup. Unsure about the crank though, not stripped it down.

If the bottom end matches head, then its likely the early crank. Guess it had the Ex cam swapped out for the cam trigger wheel and uses later Motonic now, not a bad thing tbh

I think it’s the later belt setup so bottom end is unknown. I bought in a Corsa years ago all running and just dumped it in the manta one weekend.

Yes, could well be a later block with an early head swap mate

No, it hasn’t sold yet although I’ve had a couple of what appears to be serious enquiries. if it doesn’t sell I’ll hold onto it as it will only gain in value going forward.

I’m in the east London area; very close to the A406 North Circular Road.

You are correct on the value increase, but remember it’s on,y worth what someone is willing to pay. So it’s all down to IF you want to sell it
