Manta B 2.0E 83' semi synthetic or mineral oil?

Hello, i mentioned before that the engine was rebuilt 12000 kilometers ago (15 k now).

Mineral oil was used every time since the rebuild. In the meantime while i was trying to find the cause for the low oil pressure on start. I tried a semi-synthetic oil as ive read somewhere that it might do better. I fixed the low pressure since then, it wasnt the oil that was the problem .

Im wondering if i should switch back to mineral. Whats the best oil for that engine and why?

Side question:

Is mineral oil suitable for hard driving (hitting 7k rpm and staying over 4-5k for periods of time...) I read that semi synthetic is more resistant to temperature and thinning.

Should i keep the semi synthetic oil?

Your right about Semi-synthetic, it’s definitely better than Conventional oils. It does offer better protection

What is the ambient temperature that you’re running in when doing the pulls?

Probably 30c this summer? Its mostly curvy roads and a couple of straights. I drive her pretty hard, it can get to 37c here in the sun.But winter is coming up soon.

Also ive seen no change in the way the engine runs so far. It burns a bit more semi-synthetic oil per 1000km.

Just put valvoline racing 20w-50w or 20w-60w. Yes it's mineral too.

For the Cam in Head engine? 20w50 has all the vitamins and minerals in it that these old engines need 👍

Its a FI cih gsi block with the newer oil pump.

15w40 was used since the rebuild, i tried 10w and saw no real difference so im thinking if i should go back. Are you guys sure 20w50 is the better choice

I have always used this fully synthetic oil and with the rocker cover off it looks like new inside 🙂

Bigger the gap the better tbh. So 5W50 will out perform 20W50 in winter, but overkill for the CIH. I would be going for 15W50 Semi-synthetic if it’s a good engine

15w50 both for winter and summer?
