Its not really my garage (although i wish it was). My friends grandad owns an engineering workshop the other end of town and we took it down to do some welding. The car is now at a farm in Rushton where its dry stored and i can use the facilities there.

My plan is to keep it in its original condition (no modifications) apart from the 5 spoke berlinetta alloys I bought for £25 in mint condition!

Ok, I thought i'd better update you lot on the project. I took the seats and carpet out yesterday...not only to find that most the floor was missing on both sides.

Is there a repair panel for this area of the floor? It can be fixed but if I can get proper bits id prefer them.

Sorry for the quality of the pics, i will put some more on later that I took with a digital camera.

I think you'll struggle to get floor panels I'm afraid. Most of us have had the old Fred Flintstone Manta floor to deal with at some point and it's a case of getting out the MIG and the 20 gauge and making new sections up.

From the pictures, now would be a good time to have a thorough go at your chassis rails as well. If they're solid enough, you might like to try some of the products from this lot to keep them like that:

http://www.bilthamber.com

But I suspect they'll probably need some attention from the MIG too. Use the Dynax S50 afterwards to help keep them in good nick.

As Clive says, it's very rare to see a 1.8 Exclusive these days, so please persevere.

[There you are PeteM, I've got through a whole post on an Exclusive without mentioning how badly they rust.... Oh, no I haven't - sorry![:o)]]

Cheers,

Joe.

id="size3">Hi Sutty, nice to see another Manta restore going ahead. The exteria panels look straight and dent free, in the photo.

Fare bit of hidden tin worm to sort out! Most repair sections can be shaped from sheet steel. I use 1mm in most repair work and 1.5mm when I need extra strength. Will be interesting to see what the chassis rails are like. Hope the look better than this, or your have some serious work ahead.....

I will post my Manta 'A' build soon which will show many flat and curved home made repair sections.

I have assesed the chassis rails from the bulkhead foreward and they seem to be in good shape. Ive got all panels sorted. Brand new o/s wing (new/old stock) 2 mint condition doors. The 2 slot front nose cone, tailgate and front cross member are curtosy of del8oy who was breaking one last year.

This is very interesting to see as I recently bought am old knacker to restore.

Basically what I'm going to do is a bit at a time.

Floorpan is worse than yours, and chassis rail on one side is absolutely shot to bits.

What I shall do is replace the floorpan.

Then I shall attack the chassis rail and tie this back into the floorpan.

THEN I shall remove the wing and sort out the inner wing/floorpan area.

a couple of reasons for attcaking it this way, and they are........

Firstly I don't end up with 8 grillion car parts that will need storing somewhere

I won't get the "OH MY GOD this is never ending, I'll have to scrap it. feeling as it shall all be done and finished before moving onto the next section.

Leaving as much as possible on the car i.e. Wings add to a lot of the cars rigidity, and by not cutting out vast amounts of floorpan and chassis will help retain the cars original shape and will not lead to distortion of the chassis whilst welding/jacked up.

Take your time mate and do a small section at a time and get good pleasing results from your work and this will spur you on to carry on.

Sorry if I'm preaching to the initiated, but thr task you have ahead of you is not a minor one by any stretch of the imagination.

Been badgering away on the manta today so i thought id take a few piccies.

Here is a pic of the n/s chassis rail. Thats the worst of it other than where the holes are in the floor. Looks like its cracked, but i havent begun to clean it up yet.

SP_A0111.jpg

Got the front end up on stands and started to strip the front suspension down. The studs in the hub are all loose so thats got to be replaced.

And heres a random pic of the inside. Wanted to get the bench seat out but it was having none of it so i had a sit down!

Ok, A small update for now.

I took delivery of another manta last sunday which i originally planned to use as a doner for the exclusive.

Upon further inspection the underside is 10x better than on the exclusive. This one actually has a floor!

So... i couldnt bare myself to cut up a good shell, so the engine has been taken out of the exclusive to go in the new GT.

Engineremoval.jpg

Heres me whipping the engine out today, aint much holding them in!

More to follow. [:D]

Just a little update. Me and my dad put the 1800 engine into the GT last night. Just got to start connecting all the stuff up now, and pick up a new wiring loom.

Sorry no pictures but my digital camera passed away the other week. Damn technology!
