stradacab
And good to see some growing interest in Mk1 cavaliers too. Seemed to have been a poor relation to the early Mantas but I think that is changing now. Please keep us updated....

Julian
Hi. Looks a good one, I have a 1977 Mk1 Cav, and that has just done 48,000, it's in beautiful condition, only fault is it has been lowered 45mm, so I was interested when I hear that you are going to lower your one, I've had enough of these traffic calming lumps that are all over the place, I hit bottom even when crawling over them! so if you haven't made any arrangements for the front coil springs, ( I have rears ) any chance of buying them off you? *energy*
Thanks for all the comments so far guys. im used to having to tackle the speed humps around here,my vectra is lowered 45mm and touches the slightest hump in the road. i think im going to hang onto my standard springs, just as a back up incase i decide to return it to factory.where did you get your lowering springs? *energy*
And is it fact or fiction that the block "cavalier" badge is a german built car and the italic "cavalier" badge is a uk built car?

The car had been lowered before I bought, but thinking about it again, my car is the coupe, so the springs may not be compatible. Good luck with your project
deanosabby
And is it fact or fiction that the block "cavalier" badge is a german built car and the italic "cavalier" badge is a uk built car? My one has the Cavalier badge in italic and it was built in Belgium.
Brown Job
My one has the Cavalier badge in italic and it was built in Belgium. Block vs Italic - this is down to the year of manufacture - or possibly, the year someone broke the badge and replaced it! Nothing to do with the point of manufacture. The later block style came in around 1979 or possibly 1980 (memory isn't what it was. Note that a similar style was used on the Mk2 Cav. Never mind the rivet counting, what a cracking motor! Especially the interior. Personally, I find the Cav is quite low enough to the ground without making it any harder for yourself on oil changes, speed humps, etc., but it's your car. ThePokerNut
Wow, an identical twin to the cavalier i passed my driving test in 20 odd years ago. Yellow is still my fav colour. Great looking car you've got there, good to see another MK1 being given some love.
Mick
Certainly seems to be a lot more MK1 Cavs about and more being looked after. Prices are going up too, I remember seeing this on Ebay!
*energy*
ah well that clears up the badge question. like i say im used to my vectra being mega low,as is my astra and mk2 fiesta. i must admit im not a huge fan of yellow, especialy a mega faded yellow!haha.sure i will love it once iv finished painting her. i got it for what i thought was a good price, with tax and loads of mot, impulse ebay buy at lunchtime! Rapierdave
Thats a really nice Cav saloon. I believe all saloons apart from early ones were made in Luton & all sportshatches & Coupes were made in Belgium. Cavaliers are still undervalued compared to their Manta/Ascona equivalents. Mick
This is lowered 60mm (I think) on 15's... This was chopped down into the weeds, no more than 2cm travel, was too low
*energy*
wow stunning mick!!!,love it decked on the standard rims, the 15z are nice aswell mind you.are they cavalier mk3 expression wheels? Wheres the best place to buy springs?only seen the one brand on ebay
Mick
The alloys are from a BMW E30 4x100 same as the Cav. Ebay is the usual place to look, dont forget top search for Manta GTE ones aswell as Cavalier. 1800 springs may be softer as that engine is lighter than the CIH. About 40mm is low enough for daily use in my opinion. Look here for springs Edited October 7, 2010 by Mick

Brown Job
Thats a really nice Cav saloon. I believe all saloons apart from early ones were made in Luton & all sportshatches & Coupes were made in Belgium. Cavaliers are still undervalued compared to their Manta/Ascona equivalents. The Mk1 Cav was such a popular car that production of the Saloon couldn't be satisfied by one factory alone. Production started in Luton in 1977 and both Luton and Antwerp continued to make the Saloon. So if it's pre-77, it's definitely Belgian, if it's post-77 it MIGHT be! But yes. all Coupe/Sprots Hatch were Belgian. BJ ye it is surprising as there are so little left now:( just working on mines the now, thats the two quarters repaired and in primer:)realy cant wait to get a like of paint on her! question...keep the mud flaps or bin em? Keep your mudflaps. If you have a car without them, fit 'em! Unless you WANT a fine abrasive spray of road much battering off the area behind the wheels every time it rains? It's a courtesy to following vehicles, too - less spray. I find Cavs have enough excuses to rot away without encouraging it. BJ
