upk
you will need the 1.8 sump and oil pick up pipe unless you modify your xe pipe as per SBD web site http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Vauxhall_Set_Up_Information.htm kev
xecoupe
hi mate, you want an early XE flywheel and cover plate, and a calibra turbo friction plate (please someone correct if wrong) and an ashley 4 branch manifold although there are a few other companies who supply the manifold specifically for the job. plus the 1.8 manta big wing sump, Adie Edited November 18, 2010 by xecoupe
Mrbus
I can get the exhaust for £210 on fleabay. What the difference between the early XE flywheel to the later type? I fought the only difference was the coscast head. Ive heard I will need the 2.0 mk2 carlton clutch is 5mm smaller but will fit. Is that right? rutts
i used an uprated gte spinner with 16v cover no problems . had a problem with the springs in the centre of a turbo spinner bottoming out onto my flywheel bolts.

MANTAMAN
What is little known is that Manta Club membership can effectively be FREE!!! The Opel Manta Owners Club is affiliated to the umbrella organisation The Vauxhall Bedford Opel Association which has a trade club agreement with Vauxhall Motors, this means that you can buy parts, and not just Manta parts any Vauxhall/Opel parts from your local Vauxhall dealer at trade price, this is seriously cheap, the last time i bought a battery from a Vauxhall dealer it cost me around £30, the same size battery in Halfords was around £80!!! (honestly sometimes it seams silly, you walk out of the parts department with arms full of stuff and it seams like you've only left a bit of loose change on the counter!) Also some Classic car insurance schemes will give you a discount if you a member of the relevant owners club. So join our club, insure your Manta, When it needs a service get the bits (oil, filters, plugs, etc) from vauxhalls and if your everyday cars needs a battery get that from Vauxhall as well and you'll have saved more than the cost of the Club membership fee. That all seems well & good but I work in the motor trade anyway. I am looking for insurance as thats due at the end of the month. More money!!! xecoupe
am pretty sure, i think they specialise in modified cars so very worth giving them a call, if they cannot help they might put you on to some one else. the guy Paul i spoke to was very friendly and helpful. let me know how you got on. cheers, Adie
rutts
the spinner is the disc type part with the friction material riveted on that transfers the power through the clutch system to the gearbox . adrian flux knocked £30 and equity redstar knocked over £40 off my insurances being in manta club (VBOA affiliated club) . Then i get my oil from vauxhall £35 for 4x 5Ltr of 10-40s semi synthetic. i also go to the pub meet ( 10-15 guys) and get all the help i need with my projects and help others with their projects. all this and loads more for £25 a year( 50p per week) its a no brainer cant afford not to be a club member . Retro Power
BACK to the question at hand. I have carried out MANY 16v conversions, and clutch wise I can tell you that the following bits work just fine (well they have done on the last 5 cars that I converted! ) You need the Flat type XE flyweheel Clutch cover for flat type flywheel i.e. Astra mk2 16v or earlier calibra/cavalier Friction plate for TURBO 16v i.e. calibra or cavalier turbo Manta GTE release bearing If you ring techniclutch on 0800 083 41 42, and list the above bits, they will sell it as a kit to you, with uprated cover to suit 200hp, for around £150 Edited November 22, 2010 by Retro Power
Christ
good info nat/callum - it's the combination I've been using albeit a Helix gp N Do you rate the Techniclutch stuff then as there's a lot of negative comments written about the quality of their clutches over on the SXOC. Retro Power
Hi Chris! Can only say that we've had no problems at all with them. I became aware of the negative comments after we'd used a few, but no issues here! We used one in the kadett turbo (white on on our website) and techniclutch rated it to 350hp (single plate 6 paddle jobbie) and it was fine drag racing with 425hp, but melted with 475+nitrous, but that was no surprise. It now has a £600 twin plate helix in there......you get what you pay for to some extent methinks!!
Christ
cheers for that may look into them a bit more then as I think my helix one is on the way out and techniclutch are half the price
Retro Power
cheers for that may look into them a bit more then as I think my helix one is on the way out and techniclutch are half the price Hi Chris, if its just the lining thats worn rather than the cover going slack then just get the helix one relined, should be about £20. A couple of places in leicester will do it.
Christ
interesting, that's worth a thought - it's not completely knackered, just slipping a bit
Retro Power
interesting, that's worth a thought - it's not completely knackered, just slipping a bit aha you're online!! Just posted on another thread of yours, wondering when youll get the chance to pop over here to retropower for a cuppa and chat, be good to catch up. re. clutches, my helix organic one lasted about 8000 miles with 200hp XE. Two things to cheack really, first that the cover has not gone conical, put straight edge on the flat bit and if you can see daylight under it near the centre then its in need of a replacement (I've prob got a good used cover somewhere that you can have), next it may need relining, as the pring pressure falls off a bit with increased travel, i..e its not the lack of material, just the position of the spring! Champion Clutches (on Lewisher road iirc) in leics shoudl sort it for you. cheers Nat
