Crankcase Pressure

Just bought a manta fitted with a 2.0 8v ohc engine. When checking it over I found there's some crankcase pressure from the oil filler when removed. Also from the dipstick tube. And it is spitting oil out of the tube. Don't know if this is normal for the ohc as ive only potched with the cih before. Engine has only done 4,000 miles and was bought from vauxhall. Fitted with an oil catch can if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help guys.

Could be an internal problem with the engine. Check the breather in the cam cover. Its removeable and cleanable. Failing that, its possible piston ring failure. Exhaust gases seeping through the rings pressurizing the crank case blowing the oil out of the dipstick tube..

I would do a compression test first on the engine before taking it appart,if it tests ok then check the breather system ,it may be a simple fault. You can get a reasonable compression tester from Halfords.

Agree with Manta 88, check that the breather system's not blocked, as hoses sometimes collapse internally or get filled up with mayonaise.

& do a compression test.

With a bit of luck it'll be a blocked breather causing the excessive crankcase pressure.

i got the same engine , rebuilt with 8,000 miles now. it also had a lot of pressure . More at first until the rings bedded in . to combat it i put an oil catch tank in and then a breather filter where the old mechanical fuel pump fitting is . 1800gte cam carrier .

that seemed to do the trick .
