Monaco Blue
A de-chromed example and looking none the better for it: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Cavalier-Sportshatch-mk1/182999266440?hash=item2a9b9b3488:g:PwQAAOSws5BaTo7J
Julian
I know that the chrome is the cause of a lot rust problems, rear arches for example, but to me it is not a Mk1 Cav once the chrome has been removed. plumster
In the mid 80s chrome trim & whatnot was seen as really naff, slab sided block colours were all the rage, I nearly detrimmed mine in the mid 80s but managed to hold back & kept it all on, so glad that I did. In fact ordered new trim that was available 10 or 12 years ago & fitted it all this last summer.
MANTAMAN
Not all Cavaliers had the side strips and if this was a restoration and the wheel arch and tailgate trim etc was missing and/or damaged them trying to good trim is really difficult, so going down the de-trimmed route is one option. I do like a car in original condition but i also like cars without the 'clutter' or 'Bling' that gets added by marketting departments, a plain car shows the overall shape much better, perhaps taking the car much closer to the original sketches of the designer. This Cavalier with the door handles, rear window corners colour coded, black window trim etc actualy works for me, to finnish it off it really needs some subtle alloys in plain silver, perhaps even GTE alloys in silver, plain silver wheels work better with light blue. As a modified car i prefer this over wide arches, wings etc, less is more. i like this Cavalier.
