Manta Mal
Shug.....Know what you mean. Be great to get my 'A' to Billing, but would have to work on it full time, and spend over a grand. Will have to wait till summer 2008.[] Will attend anyway, in my business workhorse[] If you say "sorry love"....then be in the Garage till July, there's more than a chance, she won't be there when you emerge, seen it many times! Shug
Well, today was mostly sppent tidying garage to give me room to work and actually find stuff! Few shelves thrown up work miracles over 'pile on floor'! Thought I'd get nothing done today but thought I'd at least try to figure out how to remove dash. Ended up with both windscreens out, fron axle stripped down (except one side anti roll bar. Bolt will not budge! Set fire to the bush tho. []) and nitromors stripped whole of front valence and remaining section of underside. Tomorrow will sandblast underside and paint up, remove rear windows from old shell and flip it onto its roof to get rear axle off easily. Then all I have to do is clean up axles, fit them and the 2.2 engine and paint the thing and put interior and glass in and MOT it. Simple, eh? Shug
The dash came out alright, as did the doors! Couldnt get the nails out so cut off the hinges! Passenger door is beyond redemption. Its is so rotten, it makes the rest of the car look good. Drivers one is redeemable. Sandblasted a bit more of the underside but the gun kept jamming so didn't manage to get it finished off. Got other windows and sunroof off old one and adjusted the position of the car to make it easier to get at axle. The pics will explain all! Shug
Its been an expensive few days. En route is one replacement fuel tank, a Mig welder, a radiator, brake calipers, and a full set of poly bushes front and rear! Prop shaft and manifold too when I get addresses for cheques. Phew! [] All I need now is a couple wheel arches, a gear stick, jacking points and some hoses and I'm all set! Robbie
It could be a dr manta job for the jacking points Hugh and the windscreen rubbers, I have placed a few orders with him, some parts arnt to bad, if you are putting an order into him, its a good idea to order all those niggly clips etc at the same time [] One thing for sure the A series isnt a cheap car to restore [] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep id="blue"> OMOC 5706 Please dont shoot me it,s only an opinion not a demand Email robbie @ mantamagic.com (without the spaces)
Shug
I had a 2 grand budget in mind when I started. So far I'm on around 1600 quid. paulmanta
Dr Mantas jacking points are made by a german panel company calle Van Wezel. They have a website where you can send for a catalogue, I suspect they do lots of A panels to be honest. I got the e-mail about bearings too, I had to have a set made up locally as the front on an A are different to the front on a B, I still have the part umber to order more if you want me to get you some. ---paulnewport "at" breathe.com---

paulmanta
Astra van rear wheel bearings can be used for the front wheel bearings on a B or C manta, The A is different. Robbie
Opelgt source are one of the cheapest to get poly bushes from and Gill is a decent bloke. http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep id="blue"> OMOC 5706 Please dont shoot me it,s only an opinion not a demand Email robbie @ mantamagic.com (without the spaces)
Shug
Robbie beat me to it, but Opel GT source. 186 bucks + 33 for insured shipping for full rear set, rear anti roll bar set and front upper and lower control arms. The front anti roll bar lower control arm bushes are cheaper from Dr Manta I think. 110 quid basically, plus whatever customs throw on.
