Stonymanta
The car was never imported or registered for use on UK roads - but thats about to change OK so here's the list: MOT (Got) Insurance (Got) Proof of Age Letter (Got) DVLA Form 5/555 (Got) Customs and Excise form C384 - Personal Transport import declaration form. (Got) I've sent my payment to Customs - just wating for receipt letter from them and the insurance docs and I can then speak to the DVLA about registering the car. But - isn't there always one of these(!) they may need to inspect the vehicle before issuing the Registration. Stonymanta
OK - it's been a long time since I updated you on progress. I have almost finished the final triming which has turned out well. Door Mirrors fitted and Rear suspension fixed so car rides at the correct height. Car is currently overfuelling when it is running so it's a pig to start and then cokes up after a few minutes on the road and dies. I have put a fuel pressure guage in line to allow me to adjust the fuel supply. I'm going to do this next weekend so should have an update for you then. The trigger points for the injection in the base of the dizzy are in excellent (low miles) condition and work perfectly well. I was very releived as these can cost £££ to replace due to their rarity. There were a number of issues when the car was received back which have now largely been adressed. The car almost made it to Billing under it's own steam, but the overfuelling issue stopped that unfortunately. I re-soldered the ECU and it is working perfectly well. I have spoken to the UK expert on D-Jetronic systems and he gave me some great help. I had been supplied the wrong rotor arm from Germany(quickly found) but still had the original one which is now in service. I did pick up some great finds at Billing with a brand new window winder handle(OEM), Accelerator Pedal and inner wing relay some excellent and V. cheap finds. Big Thanks to Ian Virco for his help before Billing to try to get the commy there. I am happy with the direction the car is going and hope to have it at some shows before the close of the year Enjoy the pics: BTW Howie has some parts from Holland now for his project car, so hopefully you should have seen/be seeing progress soon Edited August 28, 2010 by Stonymanta
Stonymanta
Hi - quick update. Turns out the issue with engine running properly is a broken Fuel pressure regulator. So I have a brand new one with guage ready to go on. I had a very very helpful local mobile tuner have look at the engine running issues I was having and - this is the best bit - he had worked on a GS/E A series Commodore almost 15 years ago - so he definately knew what he was doing. He used to do the shows years ago with his dad until children came along. The injectors are fine(they should be they were new!) and he also confirmed that the broken pressure regulator had knackered the fuel pump too( ). But I do have a spare second-hand pump that will go on for now. I was going to fit this weekend but My wifes V70 D5 had other ideas - new pads and disks required. The fronts were looking a little thin when they came off - not too bad for 140k(!). Will try to get up there next Sat am and so I hope to have anupdate shortly after Edited October 3, 2010 by Stonymanta

Stonymanta
Hi All, Thanks vauxsenb, MickB Pressure regulator replaced and the car just about starts first time - so looking good. It's a bit tricky setting the pressure tho' as you could do with a finer adjustment mechanism - but I've got it set at just under 2 bar which is a bit low - should vbe 2.2. Spent a while getting it this close to be honest. Car now runs - but is lumpy - I think it might be the pressure being just a fraction too low. I'll have more of a play with it hopefully next weekend (I can't use the workshop in the evenings during the week which is frustrating - but there you go. Forgot to take pics yesterday - as I was just soooo pleased to hear it running again. Took it for a small drive but there just wasn't any power to be had and it was missing a bit. Hopefully the last bit of adjustment will sort it out. Paulgijssen - I may need some spares - do you have the injection trigger points - I'd appreciate a list - message me simon.downs@dsl.pipex.com - thanks a lot for looking at the thread Will try to get some pictures of the install for next update. Stonymanta
Here's the pressure regulator I used : I now have a leaking thermostat housing - it's sealed with a gasket and flat plate riveted to hold it in place. Slow leak - but needs to be sorted... this road is always bumpy so I shouldn't be too suprised I have also changed the oil as it had Petrol in it from the overfueling. So at least it will have clean oil to run with now (phew!). More to follow with pics of the regulator in place.
Stonymanta
I think someone was looking for a Commodore A somewhere on this thread, so have a peak at this bargain : http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/showDetails.html?id=135673312&pageNumber=1 It looks like a 1967 model coupe (no B posts that I can see) - which would need to be shipped to the UK.... Come on someone - join me with another Commy A Coupe
Stonymanta
Well I got a replacement fuel pressure regulator and it still didn't work. Pressure stays exactly the same no matter where the adjustment threaded shaft has been set - fully in or fully out. Does anyone have any ideas on why this isn't working in the way I expected? I have tried the hoses both ways round also
upk
Is the pressure gauge in the right port? Are you seeing the adjusted pressure or supplied pressure!
Stonymanta
Is the pressure gauge in the right port? Are you seeing the adjusted pressure or supplied pressure! The regulator is on the other side of the injectors after the fuel rail which is where I believe it should be(?). The feed into the regulator is on the side and the output is on the bottom of the unit acording to the documentation. I didn't fit it to the bracket this time and ran the fuel pump by by-passing the fuel pump relay with a dirct live feeed to the pump. I am confused.... Is the pressure gauge in the right port? Are you seeing the adjusted pressure or supplied pressure! Forgot to say love your 'A'
upk
ok understand your point of confusion:- first off you are correct, the regulator needs to go in the fuel line after the injector manifold so that it keeps the manifold at a constant pressure. secondly from what i can see in the picture your regulator appears to have 2 pipe connectors (or is there a 3rd hidden from my view opposite the pressure gauge) and a pressure gauge. Did it come like this or have you assembled it? anyway don't assume they are in the right ports just cos it came like that - double check against the plumbing schematic. (Is the pressure gauge in the right port? Are you seeing the adjusted pressure or supplied pressure!)........ignore this statement! kev Edited November 30, 2010 by upk

The original one - like the Manta's - was the bell shaped one with a top adjuster screw and locking nut. Any help appreciated -
Stonymanta
OK - car has been packed off to a professional to spend some time on the engine. I explained all the history of the engine issues I have been having and he seemed confident that this could be sorted without too much issue - so watch this space

Stonymanta
Quick update... Fuel Tank hadn't been cleaned out and the return pipe was completely blocked (an air line couldn't shift the blockage and the fuel pickup filter was largely blocked too . The sender unit was also covered in black gunk too. They have had to strip all the ancillaries out of the tank, pressure wash it and then use solvents to clean up the components. This explains all the issues I have had with the fuel system. And also why I have spent a significant amount of time, money and energy getting nowhere. As you will appreciate, when I was told of this by the local specialist I was releived and also frustrated . They should hopefully have the tank back in and tested towards the end of next week. I'll update you all further at this point. Hope your projects/cars are progressing well. Edited January 23, 2011 by Stonymanta
Stonymanta
Ok then, All back together and the engine runs, but now only with the fuel system at 4+ bar. Setting it lower than this causes the injectors to fire intermitently resulting in a rough idle. Pressure can now be adjusted freely - Yipee! So, off to order some from the US now for the equivalent parts, Porsche 914 2.0L injectors. I feel another large-ish bill coming ! I have found some and am just waiting to arrange mail-forwarding service prior to ordering - as most companies in the US only ship internal Hopefully will have these within the next couple of weeks Edited January 28, 2011 by Stonymanta
Stonymanta
OK Pics of the tank, sender unit and pickup after they have been cleaned : Cork float used for sender unit : Back together now and the engine will run for 15-20 mins just idling before it gets rough, so no it's not good enough to drive yet - but it does sound a lot sweeter :. Can't wait to buy the new injectors...... Here's what they look like: They are Bosch Number 0280 150 038 and fit the 1975-76 Porsche 914 2.0L. Will update in a few days time......
