Hi, ive decided to sell my Manta.

Mot 04/14 and tax 02/14

Excellent original early Manta b on chrome bumpers, black vinyl and Bronze. (old english red)

Original dealer stickers and plates etc, many new parts and respray in original colour by fellow club owner. This car is solid+++ and has layers of waxoyl allover.

I was in the market for a different car when i bought this one, i couldn't pass the offer up. To date i've spent a fortune recommissioning it and enjoyed having it, however i feel its to good for me to keep. Im looking for £5500 for this appreciating original classic. Be quick its advertised elsewhere and generating a lot of interest.

I dont think ive seen one with such low original miles and documented history, really is a top car. see photos, my number is 07734888094

Thanks Kenny

running problem sorted, yep alot of money. it all adds up paint and purchase and recovery were the expensive parts. then numerous parts ...carbs etc etc ive got all reciepts. keep making an a**e of counting them. all in im owed 4460. (mrs counted it) so ive recently lowered my reserve on an auction site to 4500. got a new / old stock GM fuel pump. if i new more about these cars, i could have done more labour. hence why im selling it to someone with more knowledge than me

People often ask me what mines worth, and are really surprised when I say probably only £3k - £4k. As you say, if it had a blue oval on it, would probably command £10k, but for some reason the Manta's remain hugely undervalued in my opinion. This looks a superb example, and easily worth £5500 as was asked. I hope it sells soon for its true worth to a proper enthusiast.

Thanks Dave, i must admit i thought a 24000 mile original car was worth 5500. but then i dropped it to 4500 and still no offers. i dont get it.

I guess it comes down to market and image. There's a big market for Crapi's and Escorts, and well publicised. But Manta's people only really know if they owned one or remember the 400's, and I think it's only those of us left that previously owned one, that know how good they are.

The amount of people that come up to me and say they used to own one, or their dad/uncle used to own one and they loved it, you'd think there'd be good demand for an original B like this, but they aren't actively looking I guess.

Keep at it, it will go! Good luck.

the money fords demand are backed by motorsport heritage i think?personaly i think its stupid!a mk1/2 escort tin can junk yard bucket can fetch silly money yet the vauxhalls and opels struggle...i often get a look of shock when i tell people what my cars worth simply because its a vauxhall.

think the other thing is...yes you pay more for a ford.,..but you can buy every single panel or part you need...even down to silly little clips, where we struggle to get normal parts for our cars:-(

I think its a real shame the manta didnt fetch good money....but i also think its good and you should keep her lover her cherish her and engoy her kenny

I was in the RS owners owners club for nearly 20 years and I cannot believe the changes in values, it is quite unbelievable actually. An okish Ford Escort Mk2 RS 2000 will cost £15,000 plus!!! The parts prices are insane and where do people find the money? I loved MANTAS from way before the RS scene in my opinion a better car not only in looks/ styling but handling was a mile ahead of any escort! I truly adhored the rallying years, MANTA 400 were stunning, ASCONA's too. I have seen and spent a bit of time looking at Kenny's car before the new paintwork, not seen it since. The body shell to what I could see at the time was as perfect as you could ever find, no repairs, no patches or fake ups, or suspect breakouts. Think of the cost to weld up/restore a car needing restored, panels/paint/etc and at the end of the day it's still restored, Kenny's car is original, in my book that speaks volumes in value. Kenny's car is a slightly later chrome bumper model with earlier interior but newer ATS alloys ( usually fitted to the later black plastic bumper model ). So a wee bit unusual as well. My guess it hasn't sold due to everyone's money being much tighter due the economy, however things are improving!!!

1970's & 80's TV cop programmes using fast Ford cars (RS2000 an Capri) was a marketing gold mine for Ford. To be fair Ford are very good at making ordinary base production cars look awesome.

The MK3 Escort for example 1.3 2 door base to an XR3i got to hand it to them. I'm still a GM guy but you have to give credit to the opposition on this one.

They must have made a mis-print in the latest issue of Practical Classics where you said you'd paid £600 for it and spent another £550 getting it back on the road. Perhaps they meant £5500? I'd get on to them and grumble.

Unless that's a different 23,000 mile 1980 bronze Manta Berlinetta SR Coupé owned by someone called Kenny from Scotland of course?
