I have visited your site a couple of times while dreaming of old days in my 78 Manta 1.9 sr, wish I still had it but sold it sometime around 91. Would love to own one again but maybe memories are better left as just that!

Not at all, I was 80 last April, and yes , some memories have to be left as just memories, but why not bring some of them back to life? Believe me, I do, that 80 is just a number, When I saw a Cavvy for sale three years ago, I jumped on a plane in Cardiff, BMI BABY, and went up to Scotland and bought it, so glad I did, I still do my own repairs, still drive it around as I did my Manta years ago, We are only here once, get all you can out of it.  GET OUT THERE AND BUY A MANTA, or a Cavvy.  Got to go now, time to put the antifreeze in.

I had sold my previous Manta in 1994. That was my third on the trot. In 2008, like you, it was mid-life crisis time and I wanted another. I found a good 1980 Berlinetta SR for sale that needed a little re-commissioning. Bought it home in early 2009, off to Simon P at Suffolk County Mantas later that year, and I've been enjoying it ever since. If you're considering it, buy now, prices are starting to go up!!

now is the time if you are considering buying one. as dave says prices are going up nowadays. I did have a chuckle when you mention selling yours in 1991. this made me smile as 1991 was when I bought my first one a white gold 1.8 berlinetta.

if fact today I was having a ponder as to buy another or not ,to use everyday . as I have been using my hatch everyday and thoroughly enjoy it just as I did in 1991. and seeing as its the only car I really like driving but I want and need to do some remedial work on my own car before it disintegrates . I would say go out ,buy one and enjoy it and re live what you used to and bring those happy memories to life.

Cheers for the replies gents, with cloudy memories it always seemed the most enjoyable drivers car I ever owned which afterwards included a 131 Mirafiori, BMW e30 325 and e36 24v 325, Scirocco Gti and various Cav sri's etc. I am considering a hunt for a decent start point but it would have to be in pretty good order to start with due to a lack of time to do serious remedial work and would also have to be a chrome bumper coupe from a similar era, I did wonder if my old girl may be still about but would very much doubt it.

Hi Pete

This could be the car for you, it is being sold by a fellow club member & was recently owned by myself.

It is a very good car at a very good price & although it needs work it is not major & immediate.

I do love the Bronze Coupe that Dave used to own and I have seen both his Coupe's at Billing. I am still really surprised that he want less than £1500 for it, the paintwork on it looks nothing short of great, the shine is excellent. Infact I mentioned this to Sutty yesterday on Facebook :) As for me I already know what Manta is next on my list, an Exclusive Coupe :D Really hope you ignite your memories again as nostalgia will definately be in the air when you turn the key and the Manta familiar noise of the engine starting starts :)

Good luck,

Jack

Hi Pete. Where abouts in staffordshire are you?

Hi Steve, I live in Handsacre which is near to Lichfield.

I do hope to start a serious search for a suitable Manta in spring next year. Would love to get something of the same age as the one I originally owned which was a B series on an S plate, it had the Rostyles, chrome, vinyl roof and headlight surround and turned heads even back in the late 80's. Doubt I will manage to find one from that era and was never as keen on the plastic encrusted examples that came in the 80's.
