Hatch Project

Recommended Posts

I don't really want a hatch to be honest but this looks like it has had tons done already and comes with loads of bits to finish and I'm currently trying to get back in to Manta on a budget. Does this belong to anyone on here?

It's just up the road from me, was considering going to look at it as its so local. But I might get tempted to buy it, and 2's enough especially when one needs a load of work!

So I've been staying away. Can go to look if anyone's interested but too far away themselves.

The only issue i would raise is why is it an unfinished project ?

has there been a serious problem encountered with the independant rear suspension meaning that anyone taking this Manta on would have start again at the rear ? like has the floor been altered that much it would not pass a MOT so would then have to be put through a SVA test ?

If it really is a case of just bolting this one together then this could be an easy & cheap route to Manta ownership, all the hard, expensive work has been done.

I'd be okay putting a standard lump back in it, but looks a bit much for me putting the c20let in.... I'm okay if I have taken something to bits myself ...mostly:rolleyes:

No experience in anything other than standard with Manta's... I'm okay with wiring, most welding and re-routing pipes etc...at that price even though it's a hatch it might be a good cheap project for me, any more experienced members give me the low down on what I'd need to do as anything I buy I'll be trying my best to do the lot myself (no fun otherwise)

I did manage to squeeze (with a fibreglass front end mind) an allegro engine in a mini a few years back with my mate, put in the adjustable suspension cones... proper little go kart that was :D

if you can do that then putting a standard engine into this Manta should not be any trouble.

Putting a LET ( or ZLET ) would be different when it came to the turbo and what to do with the engine mounting, but this would only be the same level of challange as the Minillegro

As i mentioned above, take a good look at how the rear suspension is joined with the car, if there has been a lot of floor chopping meaning it would not pass a standard MOT then you could be buying into a whole world of pain.

Unless the MOT bloke doesn't know his arse from his elbow when it comes to manta axles if the conversion has been done correctly.

Most MOT places I've ever used have to ask me about the manta so I don't think  they would know what is original.

A XE engine would go in easy but would cost about £1500 for a good one with the bits to suit.

If the conversion is done with little alteration and blended into the floor then yes, most MOT examiners won't know that it is not original Manta.

If it has a frame made of box section for support which is filled in with falt sheet then it will be obvious that it has had sections of the original structure chopped out and replaced by a fabricated arrangement, this would be spotted by a MOT examiner and possibly be failed as being a substantial modification to the cars original structure.

And also whilst at said flipping kids party the red one ended at 880...I'd have stretched to that :( and the white one with the roof panel for £590 .... any one off here get the white one?

if you check again they went for more than that ! Red one at £1550 , white one at £1030 .....

im collecting the white one later in the week :-)

I saw a comment on facebook that someone had traveled a 100miles for the red one, then a 100miles home without it as it was no-where near as good as he thought. Not sure if that was this sale or the last time it sold only to be relisted.

At least everytime that happens it sells for less the next time. It might eventually sell for the right sort of money that someone will take it on.
