Definitely sign up. We need more members down south.

I had a look at the benefits of becoming a member, and I didn't see:

• cool window sticker

They are missing a trick there, if you're gonna join a car club, then you want a cool window sticker for your car, am I right?

Seriously I will sign up though, it's already likely saved me a good £100 if I succeed in doing this job myself 🤞

Window stickers are available in the club shop and pretty sure you used to get a round one with new membership.

Now that's what I'm talking about 😎

Put it on a note when you join “cool window sticker please!”

I fitted 6x9s on the parcel shelf of my hatch the front speaker has never worked, thankfully 🤣

Good shout, that's what I'll do, can't hurt to ask!

if you dont want to cut the parcel shelf ( the lifting section) then i fitted mine under the side sections on a baffle board leaving the existing factory grilles on top. cannot remember if they were 6x9 or the next size down but i do know  they came from an avensis in a breakers yard and were good qualty oem units and sound great.

Finally got the head unit in today, everything is working great, managed to get the antenna motor working again(connector block was broken) and the rear speakers back in action. I haven't replaced the front speaker yet, it is quite tinny and crackly, so I definitely need to get round to it. Think I'm going to add speakers in the foot wells to get proper surround sound too.

For anyone interested, cable colours for connecting up a new head unit are as follows:

Permanent live - black

Ignition live - grey

ground/earth - brown

auto antenna- green

Speaker cables are pretty self explanatory, cable going left is left back, going up is centre front and cable going right is rear right. I believe the cable with two colour is the negative, I will test this when I am able to see the speaker dome.

also you need to splice the blue cable into the permanent live, this makes the antenna go down, the original connector was some strange tube with a spring in it??(you can see it in the picture with the original radio pulled out) Never seen anything like it, it was also broken, I just connected it in with the permanent live, and it seems to be working fine.

That looks cool and not out of place. More retro looking than the Philips.

So it's Bluetooth and music from phone.

Wonder if there is anything modern with a similar unit, as most people don't bother swapping out units nowadays.

Try telling someone nowadays that radio theft was common place back in the day.

I'm assuming they design these for this era of car, being marketed as a retro head unit.

I've replaced a few stereos, not always out of choice, like the double din sat nav that blew on my last vehicle 😑

But yeah you're right it's not really necessary on a modern car, there's not much point.

This one fits an absolute treat, and I'm really pleased with how it looks, really suits the car, and now music from my phone plays when I start up the car!

I didn't even use the cage, it fits so snug it's not necessary, and as you say radio theft isn't much of a problem these days.

That's an inline fuse holder, it should have had a glass fuse in it, when you say permanent live, do you mean a feed that comes from the main fuses?

Ah ok, there was no sign of the inline fuse. Do you know what amp it would be? I will try and get a replacement.

I'm not sure if the permanent live runs through the fuse box or comes direct from the battery. I know the stereo system does run through the fuse box, but I don't know if that is all the feeds.
