Jim , thanks for the offer but i was home before i read your reply!

i will be over again in a few months i am sure so would be good to meet a few of the guys over there.

Anyway, back from the trip and a spurt of enthusiasm;-

refitted all the panels to confirm panel fit and do any adjustment before we hit it with paint. Not shown on pics but that included the body kit trims along the cills.

Well its been a while since my last post. In that time paint preperations have continued but alas no sign of any paint going onto the car as yet. Anyway its too cold at the moment and i always promise the good wife that i will take car of the decorating in the house over the winter months so i can free up garage time for the summer. :D

Anyway i am getting a bit bored and as i say its too cold to paint so i have picked up another very tiny project so that i can have a bit of fun:-

306 GTI 6 - 168BHP in standard form, just one cage and a set of billies to fit and we can go road rallying ( a couple of weekends work) :thumbup

Well what can I say!

Here I am totally frustrated and annoyed with myself.

I built the 306 rally car and took 1st in class on its second outing. Yes I am very happy with that but the problem is I have too many projects on the go and the manta is just gathering dust!! Everytime i plan to start it again i end up doing another job!!!

Worse still I am itching to get started on the mk2 escort!!

Sounds easy, put the manta back in the workshop and get it finished, it's 95% ready for paint. Seriously I think I have lost my motivation to finish it!!

Need a serious shot of remotivation !!

Well you've done all the hard work and it's worth little as is. Best bet is to push on and get it finished as you are so close and sell it

With the quilting of the work you have fine it will deffo find a good home at a good price.

You can do it- come on !!!

No worries James, no plan to sell, just frustrated at the lack of progress!! Any how this morning I moved it back into the workshop and and got the plan of action straight in my head.

Only need a few hours on it and should get the mojo back

Well at last I am making progress albeit slowly!

I have spent a good few hours now working on the roof panel taking out the ripples that you can feel, filling , sanding, filling, sanding, filling, sanding etc etc etc!!

The guy that normally does my paintwork prep is not available so i thought how hard can it be??

Some friendly advice from the body shop supplier and were having it!!

Very pleased with progress so far, this morning saw the etch primer go on the roof and then some high build filler primer. I pot of guide coat to hand and it's time to start block sanding. Fingers crossed!!

A good day in the garage this morning. I have managed to get the shell primed!

Next job is to apply top coat to the engine bay and paint underneath. That will allow me to fit the running gear etc. the final top coat will be done by my local paint shop.

I have been waiting for this day for weeks now, you know the one. That ball of burning gas visible in the sky!!

Yep it was time to hit the manta with some paint.

Not a full job, just the engine bay and underneath so I can fit the running gear before it goes for top coat!

It's been done in Audi nimbus grey, why I here you ask? Well I had a load left from the last project so decided it looked ok on that and I wanted to save a couple of quid with the metallic top coat it's getting.

With you on that one James!

Picked up the clutch today and finished assembling the gearbox to the engine. Replaced handbrake cable and tightened up all the back axle fixings ( except for panhard rod as this may need shortening).

Car is now ready for the engine to be rolled into place, all being well should get that done tomorrow!!

Hooray , progress!

More progress today......

My top tip for refitting the engine is to put the back axle on first , jack up the back end and put axle stands on the rear jacking points that then allows you to pivot the car with the axle acting as a counterbalance......

If you get it high enough you can then roll the engine and box fully assembled on the sub frame under the car with no effort at all....

A short while later its all bolted up and propshaft refitted and we have a fully rolling shell!

At last, real progress!!
