upk
Another weekend of progress. Started off refitting the steering colum and the decided it was time to swop the cars between garages so that I would have a better environment for rebuild. So escort out and manta in! Don't panick the escorts safely tucked up in the other garage with all the panels from the manta. I can now get on with rebuilding. I could even keep my slippers on if I wanted!! upk
Continue to install engine today, was a case of fit and remove stuff as I was checking for position and fit of all the ancillarys. It seems to becoming together well and the water pipes from the omega fit in nicely! Had a good study of the wiring diagrams for the transponder install and I reckon you don't need it if you simple install a live to pin 9 on the ecu?? Anybody else have a view on this??

upk
Managed to find a few hours today in between refitting the kitchen ( taking the wall out twix kitchen and dining room) so I set to work modifying the omega downpipe. Both pipes needed adjusting to clear the bulkhead and the gearbox mounting flange. Going to get a big bore manta system for the rest so will just need to weld on a new bellows to suit. Anyway back to kitchen duties for now so update in near future! Edited June 8, 2013 by upk
upk
Hooray it's finished!! The kitchen that is. Last bit completed this morning and I reckon I have earned a shed load of brownie points and intend on cashing them all in!! Back in garage this afternoon and started wiring in the engine, albeit temporary just to ensure she fires up before I spend time and effort making it all look pretty!!

upk
Today's progress:- 1. Cooling system plumbed in except for gauge senders 2. Clutch cable fitted 3. Accelerator cable fitted 4. Mounting bracket manufactured to hold ignition coil pack rear of engine 5. Test fit bonnet to check clearance to air intake & expansion tank Just ordered a hose adaptor so I can install the temp sensor Doesn't sound like much but I've been in the garage 7 hrs today??
MANTAMAN
You often see unfinnished projects, addvertised as 90% complete just needs finnishing, they have dumped the engine in the bay but discovered the hard bit is coupling up all the bits and pieces, yes i can believe that it took 7 hours to get various items connected up. upk
Steady progress this weekend. Made up brackets and mounted expansion tank. Started sorting out the mess of spaghetti and grafting the 2 looms together. And I still found time to help out at our motor clubs production car hillclimb trial......great fun was had by all. upk
It's been a while due to an unplanned distraction! Had to rebuild the front end of the pug 306 rally car after a ditch threw itself under my car on the last event!! All done know so can get on with the manta again.
upk
Completed making good the wiring harness today. Just need to mount the ecu to the inner wing and that's basically it for engine side electrics. Another chance to play tomorrow after a trip to machine mart for the vat free day! Time to make a shopping list I think.
upk
Forget machine mart!! Quick check on eBay and I can buy what I wanted cheaper including postage, and same make!! So that gave a bit more time in the garage today so ECU mounted. Coil pack mounting bracket made and same installed at rear of engine. Need a couple of bits to finish of in engine bay so made a start sizing up the exhaust. Just need to manufacture the pipe to join manifold to middle box. My plan is to use a flexible joint as the pipe is running just on one side. This will help accommodate any expansion when running. That will leave the brakes to pipe up and then it will be off for paint. I do believe I may get this finished in 2014!!!! Fingers crossed. upk
Shopping trip on Saturday means I now have all the fittings needed to complete the brakes and the exhaust. Do you know I can almost smell the paint! On another note I have decided to extend the double garage by approx 9ft incorporating a high roof so I can install a 2 post lift st home!! upk
Good day today!! Helped my my old mate who just returned to UK from Canada. upk
Brake lines all done in good ridge stainless! Just need to fill with fluid and bleed. Started up again today to hear what the exhaust sounds like and very happy with the throaty rasp!
upk
Brakes all done bar a couple of p clips that need adding. Started putting a few bits on today to get it ready for its trip to the paint shop. By the way I used a sportex mid and back section mated to a custom downpipe and the exhaust rasp is music to the ears!! Seeing as I have a spare bonnet I am going to see if I can modify one to that of a 400. And I know that the diamonds are not in the right place I just put them on there temporary and they kept sliding off!! If I don't like the finished job I will end up buying a full fibreglass one but all thechat on Rutts group buy post made me think twice!
