opelscott22
Shonky opel, its probably better if you come and collect it, like you say, good excuse for a road trip! Let me know if your coming and Ill get it all sorted for you. The engine is complete but Ill be keeping the box for spares. Crazydave, its defo going to be an early one. Theres a guy on ebay selling the decals, but £90?!! does anyone know of a cheaper alternative? after all, its only stickers.... Id rather paint it on than pay £90 for stickers! Scott. opelscott22
Been out to do a bit to the car today. I stripped all the underseal off the drivers side inner wing and found loads of MOT type patches. Now, this car has been Ziebarted so I wasnt really expecting to find this as most of the usual grot spots on this are spotless. The actual wing rail and the front bit is fine, its the footwell area thats bad, not unusual but probably the worst bit to do neatly on a manta. Looks like its going to be Billing 2015....maybe. Bad times. Scott.

opelscott22
Yep no problem. Just let me know when your coming up. Just so you know I binned the inlet and exhaust manifold and the starter, they were gone before you were interested. There is a twinchoke weber to go with it aswell. Just let me know when you want to come up. Scott.
Retro Power
Looks a nice starting point. Bound to be some grot here and there, they always is, but looks like a really good foundation for a 400 rep! PS didn't read the thread fully, but take it yr keeping the std two slot nosecone? As you can see in Monzta's pic, it works better with the proper irmscher 400 kit (the ones from Martin if sourced in the uk) Agree on the headlamps too, the big std lamps do look great with the 400 kit Edited September 29, 2011 by Retro Power
opelscott22
Yep, the 2 slot and tv screen lights are staying. Im aiming for it to be exactly like the pic above, even down to the interior if I can get hold of the Blitz cloth to do some seats. Im putting the shell over on its side tonight to start getting the underseal off ready to come down to you, thats gonna be a long trip! Scott. steveopel
Cant wait to see this one finished, i used to have some of the motors for the headlamp wipers in the garage that i took off my old SR quite a few years back, i havnt seen them for along time but if you cant find any i can have a good hunt for you, good luck with her. opelscott22
Hi Steve, that would be great if you could have a look for me. Those wipers and the Blitz interior are the things I will struggle to find... Scott.

opelscott22
Well, after an epic battle with the front crossmember bolts the front end is mostly stripped ready to go for powdercoating. Ive still got the lower balljoints to remove (too tight for my vice to remove!), need to find a press to get them and the bushes out. Ive ordered a heap of bits, my set of polybushes turned up today and Im off to collect my 400 kit tomorrow. Cant wait to tape the kit on, sit in it and make broom noises!! Scott. Retro Power
make sure your powdercoating place zinc phosphates (or similar) before they powder coat the stuff. If they don't it all falls off in no time at all and you'll be unhappy!
opelscott22
Yeah they do, Ive been using them for years, they do an excellent job. I picked up the first powdercoated bits and my 400 kit today, ill put up some pics after Ive had a play in the garage! Scott.
opelscott22
Been busy lately with work and dreaded DIY but still managed to do a few bits to the Manta. Ive scraped most of the sound pads off the floor, other mantas Ive had this usually comes off in big chunks, not so with this one! there for ages with a blow torch picking it off bit by bit, really well stuck down! Thankfully didnt find too much, a wee hole near the passenger jacking point but thats all coming out anyway. Ive decided to make a spit to get the shell on once Ive removed the rear axle, makes it so much easier to strip the crappy underseal off! StevieH
I must admit to buying my rollover spit but boy has it made life easier , must be one of the best things i ever did not only for removing the underseal but wait till you start welding its just so much easier . opelscott22
Steve, more than welcome to come round, like you say, might be a trek though! Mark, just make one! only took me a few hours and cost me £20 in steel from my local supplier. I usually just roll a shell over on some tyres to do the crappy jobs but I think the manta may be a bit heavy for that, Ive been doing Vivas and Escorts for the past god knows how long, just a wee bit lighter! Scott.
opelscott22
Had an hour in the garage today so I started to think about how I could make the spit lockable. I work with Rolls Royce jet engines so I chopped the end off a turbine shaft, (a scrap one!) and welded it to the frame. I need to get a gate latch type thing to weld to the stand and it should work fine. Also, I had a wee box turn up today with lots of goodies inside...full set of polybushes. Polyurathane is one of the cheapest materials you can buy so why are these things so damn expensive?!! Scott
