Den83
whats the best carb upgrade to replace the varajet in my manta 1.8? Something that would improve the power and that is relativity easy to fit?
spiney_norman
Think the standard Weber replacement was the 32/34DMTL
guysat
I did the Weber 32/34 replacement many years ago and was excellent, even fitted a pancake airfilter that sounded nice. There was a definite improvement in power when fitting a tubular exh manifold
Ems
I used the 32/34 on my old 1.8 before I converted it to fuel injection, it was an improvement on the standard one - but anything would have been as it wasn't running properly! dynamytedan
32/36 dgv (manual choke) worked well for me . that one needed a conversion base gasket to make it fit . i'm not sure if all the webers are like that ? check bonnet clearance just in case , as it all ends up half an inch higher . It looks as though you have a carb that Snowy wants, and Snowy has a carb that you want
Daza
Does anyone know what actual cars was the WEBER 32/34 DMTL CARB from? How do you figure that out? He is also looking for a simple straight forward carb upgrade? D
spiney_norman
Snowy's after a Varajet II to put his 1.8 back to totally original, think he has a Weber on there at the moment he may be up for doing a swap on.
Snowy
Just to clarify I have a 32/36 DGV. I would be willing to swap for a Varajet carb but i would also want cash my way. The carb i have is brand new. Thanks Edited February 26, 2015 by Snowy

jasonj
Does anyone know what actual cars was the WEBER 32/34 DMTL CARB from? Ford 1600 CVH engines.. Mk2 Fiesta XR2, Mk4 Escorts. Some Sierra 1.6 pinto engines.
Daza
At a guess they will need an adaptor plate and re-jetting for Manta?
jasonj
Definately need an adaptor plate. Not sure on the jetting. An XR2 is similar power to a 1.8 OHC engine so may be somewhere near.

Go for the 32/36 DGV like I have. Just had it set up on the rolling road. The 2L pinto set up is much closer to what you need that the 1600cvh. Daza
What about air filter? What are the adaptor plates made from? Ally? Cheers Edited March 9, 2015 by Daza
Snowy
What about air filter? What are the adaptor plates made from? Ally? Cheers Air filter is personal choice. There are so many choices for the weber carbs. I will adapt the standard 1800 one to fit in the next few weeks. I made my own adapter plate out of 5mm thick aluminium plate. Daza
Would you mind sending a photocopy please?
Snowy
Would you mind sending a photocopy please? A photo copy of what sorry? If you mean the adapter plate you just use a manta gasket and a weber gasket overlaid. You will need both anyway. I would have to strip my engine to take a copy of it for you now. But I can take some pictures tomorrow.
Daza
Was there much to do with rejetting? Thanks
Snowy
I had mine set up on the rolling road. It doesn't cost much to get it set up as the 2L pinto settings aren't far off what you need.
Daza
Not exactly thriĺled about the prospect of throttling an untested 30yr old 80k car on a rolling road for a few BHP??? D
Snowy
Not exactly thriĺled about the prospect of throttling an untested 30yr old 80k car on a rolling road for a few BHP??? D It doesn't have to be throttled to check the mixture through the rev range. If you want it set up for power then yes. But no matter which carb you buy you'd need to get it set up properly. So you don't have much choice???
Daza
How much was the RR session?
Snowy
Including the parts that were changed it was £120 for the session. But I had made certain before I took it in that there were no issues with the install at all. A lot of money is wasted on the rolling road when the operator is fixing the problems you should have sorted before you arrive.
