ANDY ABBOTT
So I started the white 2 door ascona build then sods law another popped very local up that wasin better shape so I've decided to do this one instead. I got it home last week but have not had the time to do anything with it. So today I made a start. I've got it stripped out, axles removed, up onto the spitt, under seal scraped from the section I'm starting on and hit it with the twis knot wire wheel of terror on the grinder. I've used these a lot but I must admit they still scare the crap out of me 😂 began chopping out the rot and that's it for the day. Theres a previous bad repair to the inner wing but other than that theres no other old repairs to remove, which makes my life a bit easier. Jessopia74
Those wheels scare the crap out of me too, last time I used one it grabbed, stalled the 800w grinder and blew the fuse. Nearly snapped my bloody wrist! What bit you use for spot welds ?

fullsunian
Another thread I will be following.... I cant get my head round the fact you have two or more projects on the go at once.. especially with the standard you continually turn out. I struggled with just one! 2

I suspected that they may be better. Not that the Draper hole saw type is particularly bad, but to keep them neat I end up having to use a 1/8 Drill to make a 2-3mm pilot hole for the guide to center. And as it does not remove the fused metal, unless punch through the metal it requires some dressing with the grinder. So I think the drills must be more efficient 😎
ANDY ABBOTT
Few hours on the Ascona today. New inner chassis made, inner bolt sleeve fitted as per original, chassis jig fitted, inner chassis welded in place and everything lines up well 🙂 Think Narla worked a bit too hard too 😀 Project images are available to Club Members Only, Click to become an OMOC Member. ®evo03
Great to see something so difficult taking place. Great save! is she going RHD? Could the front panel be used to make a new panel, why do they need perfect panels, as long as there are enough traces of where the tags are. It's staying LHD this one, as I have all the replacment parts in LHD and makes life easier with clearance issues of servo etc... when fitting carbs. The old front panel is totally rotten and put of shape I don't think it could be copied.
