It had stood in a garage for the last 6 years and was covered with ivy. The previous owner wanted it to go to a good home and it has[] I have a bit of a problem with the tick over at the min as in it wont[] reckon it could be an air leak or something?????? Sure ill be asking plenty of question anyway as this is my first time with anything other than a ford[] As spotted the mk1 is my first love and is just recieving a 2.0l duratec on throttle bodies[}][}][}] (if i ever finish it!!!) Guest
Manta looks like a non-sunroof model too. Are you keeping the Auto-Box then ? OMOC 5885
Guest
Yeah no sun roof. Is that good then???? As for the auto, i dont know. I want to keep it standard but would like a manuel but then again the auto's easy. Is it hard to source the parts needed for the conversion??? Rick-Manta
I like an Escort Mk1 myself, I doubt everyone on here is anti-ford, we just prefer people to use the duratec or ecotec's over a red-top and manta box conversion (oops![])! With regards to the fuel tank. Check the unions which the breather pipes are attached to and where the metal straps meet the tank for corrosion. If they're all solid you've done even better with this freeby! When you replace the tank, if you can get hold of some rubber strips (made from some bike innertubes maybe?) and use them between the straps and the tank, can prevent later problems. When you say it won't tick over, can you keep it running by holding the throttle open for a bit or does it just cut out regardless? Guest
When i removed the tank it came out as easy as pie!! The straps and tank and even the rubbers were in perfect condition the only thing i had to change was the pipe work and the terminal for the earth broke off the fuel sender[] Everything i have done to this car so far has gone like clockwork, bolts come undone easy, everything seems to want to play game. The car will deffinatly be back on the road and soon as i can source some seat adjusters i shall put it in for an mot[] As for the tick over problem, i can keep the car running by blippin the throttle it just wont tick over???? Seems like it could be an air leak to me but tbh i havnt really delved into it as have had my head under the bonnet of my escort[8D] (ive got to make the duratec work so everyone stops knicking all the manta bits for the XE conversion lol )
Andy manta xe
Nice find! Get the WD40 and spray around your hoses to see if it's drawing in air anywhere. I had the same problem, it turned out that my servo pipes were perished and it was drawing in air there. Hope this helps chief! [] Memebership no 6096 Based in Liverpool!
