You'd be supprised what else is still in there....

The car is as good as it looks. Just needs a bit of work to the floors above the jacking points, rear arches and the rear panel sorting out. It had been hit before i got it. Not too bad though really.

I think i have seen better but I have also seen a lot worse. Its been touched by the rust in some places quite badly but in others its not too serious.

With your track record i am sure its going to come out as a very nice car indeed, the last one with the CiH transplant was very smart.

Its these cars that we will all be wishing we had saved in 10 years time !

I think its quite savable too[^].

I think if you were wanting a mint condition show car it would take up most of your time for at least a couple of years (any car will take this tho) and a lot of money as you'd either need to be really good at metal work or buy new panels such as inner guards.

It is as paul says surprisingly solid in some places tho.

HAs potential to be a really good car and def needs saved.

If what I say can be taken in 2 ways and one of those ways get you angry....I meant it the other way

To be honest i think the pics make the car look a lot worse than it is.

There is no major rot any where. The worst places being the front cross member and passenger side jacking point. For which i have brand new panels to go on.

It will be at Billing this year. I just need to decide what engine i'm going to put back in it.

I have toyed with the idea of another 1.8 and also a 3.0 straight six. But if i can get one at a reasonable price i'm going to try and put a vauxhall 2.0 16 valve DTI engine in.

most of the ones i've seen are attatched at the rear through the bumper mounts using a run of box or angle iron on the outside & the inside to sandwich the back panel

One front chassis tilter finished....well nearly. Just got to put a handle on it now.

Oh and you can jack it up to gain extra height. The forks slide inside the main housing. I even put a lug on it so i can jack it up.

Just got to make the back one up now.

I have a 190amp mig welder. The box is 3mm wall thickness. It has been holding the car all night with no problems.

I'm a bit wary about the rear. Does anyone have a tilter already for a coupe that they would be willing to explain / show how it attches to the rear?

I was thinking of using the tow bar mount for extra security. But i would also like to loan it to other members once i have finished with it. Not everyone has a tow bar fitted.

Any help with this would be really appriciated. Thanks

I undid the nuts on the bolts through the chassis rails.

Cut the heads of the bolts.

Punch the bolt through about an 1/8th of an inch.

This then allows you to get a cutting disc between the chassis leg and subframe. Cut the bolt.

Then just undo everything else such as dampers, anti roll bar, steering arm etc etc.

Sometime the bolts do come out. Try it first. The last MK1 cav i cut up they came out fine.

Now i have the body stripped and the car in the air i've decided to start work on the rear arch. Not sure why here but you've got to start somewhere i suppose.

Original arch

It's amazing how the outter arch can look quite reasonable but the inner is quite bad. Starts from the inside out though i suppose.
