MANTAMAN
To be honest I am absolutely useless at anything like restoration, I have all the passion in the world but I am useless with my hands the only thing I can do with my Manta is clean it. You'll get more competant over time, can you change a wheel?? i know someone with an Oxbridge degree who needs the AA when he gets a puncture !! Keep doing the simple things and you'll get used to how things go together, soon you'll be servicing your Manta, and don't decry cleaning your Manta, to clean a car to show standard takes a lot of effort, patients, knowledge and skill, there is far more to it than a bucket, sponge and some polish. Wheels are BMW E30 but have a bigger offset of ET-13 BMW E30 usually have ET 25 offset IIRC, so ET 13 is LESS offset hence the wheel should not be as far inboard, you are far from alone with this, a lot of people, including many on here are baffled by suspension and stearing geometery and the terms used. Hmmmmmm. I fancy a valver in it, bigger brakes, LSD Take a slightly different route, a 2.0L SEH with sensible tuning will make 150 bhp, almost as much as a standard valver but with extra torque so would actually be quicker than valver, plus apart from the injection it would look very 'stock'

Oh no I don't know how to clean a car to show standard and it is highly skillfull doing that. I keep my Manta very clean but don't detail the paint etc. I wash, polish, wax, wheels etc. I can change the wheel yes.
Kevin Abbott
ET 13 means the wheels are stuck out more than a standard E30 Et 20 E30 wheels on a manta won't rub, mine do as they are ET 13 but it doesn't matter as the arches are going to lose in a war of wheels vs steel
lamchop77
Well done Kev and crew!! Awesome looking manta, and not a 400 arch in sight!!!! Defo cibies off.

Kevin Abbott
Hence if they are 'stuck out' more then they have a smaller offset Ahhhhhhhhhh, smaller offset = bigger stick out. That's what I meant Yea I think I'll pull the cibies

mantasrme
Nice work, but its never finished, there is always some other thing to do to it The SEH is found in the mk2/3 Cavalier SRi130 and some calibra's plus pos some Astra's?. Its the higher power version of the normal 2.0 ohc injection engine that had 110bhp, the SEH had higher compression (due to different pistons) a better cam and a different ECU to give it 130bhp I have one in my white hatch and that goes very well, never had it on the rollers but it has higher compression pistons and better injectors so should be a bit above 130 now If you want more then Joe's old Hatchback 'Vienna' has a SEH bottom end, Blydstein head and Irmscher cam with R1 carbs and makes 170bhp on the rollers (now that is serious fun to drive and sounds ace) My SEH might even be for sale soon as i have a different plan for it

Cavalier SRi 130, which as it says on the tin is 130 bhp standard, getting an extra 20 bhp with a good cam and exhaust manifold should be quite possible, go beyond this with a reworked head, though there is one issue, the manifold with long intake tracts fouls the servo, the short intake track manifold doesn't flow as much. Search the worldinterwidewebnetwork, there must be information 'out there', i know Total ( now Performance) Vauxhall did a guide to 2.0L eight valves including how to get more out of them. Know someone who has a manifold for twin webers to eight valve head for sale.
lamchop77
Do what the grasser lads did in class 3, 16v red top bottom end take it out to 2.1 , stick a ported 8v head on and 45's with a decent cam you have well over 200 bhp with the right ignition setup!!!

Kevin Abbott
Billing time Last minute checks done and a good waxing Then the drive to Billing was a great journey, easy up to a bit of traffic on the M1 where it stopped and Jon Bon Jovi stopped next to us his his van for a chat about Mantas! Manta in the fast lane as that's where they should live Onto the field and lined up next to some more NW OMOC cars A quick wash and it was time for concours as the event had been pushed from Sunday to Saturday All lined up OH MY GOD!! I WON A TOP 10 PLACE Gong in my right hand, thank's to everyone who voted for my car, it's really appreciated ( foam fingers was an inside joke , top fun.. bigcliff won that trophy) I got invited into the VBOA ring on Sunday After the night before that was a struggle to get up and ready for 10am and the interview if I can embed it follows http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v646/callybreaker/KEVIN-PC/2015-05-05/A5C3FF53-D368-47D5-A6A4-8FEE589F435A_zpsiglustk5.mp4 Game over on Monday as the field was empty and we had to leave in the wet What a journey it's been in the last few months. NW OMOC are at Bodelwyddan Castle on Sunday 19th JULY so it's time for the next show Edited July 14, 2015 by Kevin Abbott

MANTAMAN
That arena interview was funny. For me this was moment of dread when Mr Coomber decided to have a long chat with you Danny, i was thinking 'oh no, Danny's still 90% pissed !' ( the state of you when you where dragged out of your sleeping bag at 09:30....) but i shouldn't have worried, even when Mr Coomber asked the question that none of us can really answer, 'how much are they worth?' you gave a good reply. I know Ian Coomber from VBOA meetings and i could tell that he was genuinely very impressed with the restoration time scale and he is a man who really has 'seen it all before' Despite reading this thread, seeing the car with my own eyes at Billing i still find this restoration truely astonising, i think this story would be of interest to car magazines.

Kevin Abbott
Thank's for the kind words, a few jobs to do next Brake conversion, original brakes are rubbish, bluetooth stereo and speakers. Fit correct door glass, see Technical Discussions Last week we took the Manta on a trip to Anglesey and on the Sunday we met up with some of the other omoc members at Bodelwyddan castle show Dan and I had organised. The day before I had the exhaust redone at http://www.tg-silencersrochdale.co.uk/as it was knocking it t##ts off, they removed it and remade sections, tucking it into the body and making it a fantastic system now. Finally after all these years my eldest can help me wash the Manta, first wash and what a place to do it Then onto the beach, good job it's go car and not a show car or I would of been worried about the amount of sticks my youngest had Bodelwyddan castle So far I have put 1000 miles on it and it hasn't missed a beat, the clutch biting point went too low to get any gears due to bedding in or stretch so I did a modification I had done to my Mk1 cav many years ago Slipped a tool clip between body and cable to take up the wear/ stretch and it's all good again Edited July 26, 2015 by Kevin Abbott
