Corsa B power steering

Recommended Posts

Its not outrageous as they have become pretty hard to locate in good working order/unhacked.

I have managed to bag a couple of bare columns around the £100 mark as they do come up now and then, especially on the Grass Tracking groups. So 175 with steering wheel and barrel etc is fair.

Seen expensive kit on Demon Tweeks, over £6k 🤣🥵

Time to start looking in breakers me thinks, not just Corsa, alot of small car manufactures have similar, along with our beloved Electric Vehicles weighting 4 ton 🤣 and will be available broken for parts very soon.

yeah a scrapyard should be much cheaper and like you say maybee other cars too . what about clio mk3 ?

but out of curiosity ( dont shout at me !)why would you need power steering on our mantas anyway , they are not heavy by any means ?  i remember early carlton mk1 didnt have it either and that wasnt too bad.  i suppose its that people get used to modern cars where you can spin the wheel with your finger whilst stationary ?

GTE steering is different and wider tyres, plus some pp l that want still own the car might have mobility issues mate.

Must be Corsa B mate, they do command a bit of premium as they are popular in Grass Tracking and with lots of other makes too since its pretty much self contained.

gte steering is only slightly heavier and gm didnt think you needed it but yeah i see what your thinking regarding people who may have mobility issues . i must admit the early carlton was a bit heavy at parking speeds but you got used to it and it was nicely weighted at cruising speeds but gm didnt fit it as standard until 82 approx .

now drive an early "series " land rover and compare ! lol  .

Anything under £300-350 is cheap for a rhd corsa B column complete with lower link and ecu currently. I see then sell for £450 now and then on ebay too Which is silly money i think.

But they are not common any more, very few corsa's had them fitted and they are 24years old at least now. Rare to find a corsa in a scrap yard, infact i rarely find the later Corsa C's in my local yards never mind the B's :(

Most of the ones i've made for people are for older folk (lets face it none of us are spring chickens any more on here) who find the standard steering heavy when their other car is a modern with very light steering. Or people with shoulder/ back/ or chest issues. The other common one is when you have a 400 with a quickrack, then the power steering really comes in to its own

+ the use of the resistance switch. Down low makes it a little lighter than without, which helps with parking.

Only time I didn't like it was with on pack ice, about a few inches thick, but the rear steer was activated 😉

Couldn't feel the front wheels and gave a ghost effect.

Also worth looking at is proper maintained knuckles, bearings, and column cleaned and regressed.

Anyone use another setup, there are plenty out there.

Think mk4 Astra has power rack, and is used in drifting, deletes the oil pump etc to simplify things.
