Will get the rest of the paint work finished this week, apart from the one door I have to get collected from madamevectra, hopefully in jan/feb Looking forward to being able to take my time and clean up the bits that have to go back on the car and fitting them, at that point you start to see the car starting to look more like it should [] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep The New OMOC Northern and Southern Ireland Forum http://www.vxopel.com/phpBB/ id="blue"> OMOC 5706

Robbie
Hectic weekend , Gunman and I headed over to the mainland on a 850 mile round trip, [] Headed to Simon Peckhams to pick up dels 16V bling engine, meet Del there as well, It was great to see the cars that simon was working on including a couple of rather nice A series mantas, would of loved to stay longer but we were tight for time as the ferry was delayed and we where already behind. Headed over to Andy Clears and yet more great mantas in the building and picked up some parts of Andy, then headed from suffolk up to bradford to meet mick. A few jars later and hmmmm they wanted us to leave as everyone else was away home lol we wanted more juice [] Sunday morning and Mick took us to a cafe and had a fry up, then of to get Marks engine, Ended up coming away with a bonnet, set of rims and a timing chain cover as well for the 16V [] It was then up to Dawns to pick up a door for the A series, seen dawns car which is coming along well. Then headed back to birkenhead for a not so nice sailing [] tried the rims on the black A series today to see what they looked like, will look a lot better when i get them cleaned, and the engine fitted as the car is sitting miles high at the moment. What do you think of the rims on the car ? http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep The New OMOC Northern and Southern Ireland Forum http://www.vxopel.com/phpBB/ id="blue"> OMOC 5706
opel2000
I think they look spot on Robbie, they are a nice polite very neat wheel, and well suited to the A. The other nice thing about them is that they are a sort of shadow chrome effect and will sit well with the black. Only thing is, if they still have the original tyres on they are absolute dire in the wet, great for if you want to practise some drifting though. Posted by Devil fish. gunman
I've seen these wheels on the car in the flesh so to speak. They do look well and its hard to see it in that pic, you need to syand back and see the whole car. They do carry the theme well too. Robbie
My personal choice would be revolutions, the just look the mutts nutts on the white V8, but when we put one on the black car it just didnt seem to work or do anything, they just blended, i,m not a fan of new type rims on older cars either but the shadow chrome does seem to work and the rims are only 15", bigger rims dont seem to work either. I need a zillion free hrs to get more work done on this project or it aint going to be out next season. ALL my fault i just keep adding to the workload. I keep saying to myself, this one aint for shows its to play with on track days and drive about, but its so hard not to do a job sorta right when ur at it, Wasnt that happy about the spray job as some bits wernt just to me liking but after a month or 2 out what car wont have a mark or 10 [] Think i need a squad for 2 weeks to get back on track [] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep The New OMOC Northern and Southern Ireland Forum http://www.vxopel.com/phpBB/ id="blue"> OMOC 5706
Robbie
This week seems to be just running into problems, the good old A series aint as handy as the B when it comes to the 16V [] First snag I hit was the xmember is a lot different in the early A,s compared to the last run and the B series, there is no bracket on the xmember to bolt on the typical B engine mount rubber, so if this is going to be done I have to chop a B series xmember up and modify the xmember on the A, another snag is the ARB on the A series, as it goes back in the car and not forwards, the ashley 4 branch is will be be modified to curl around the ARB , and done properly so not to loose any tuning. Then the normal problem of the heater box, not sure what else will stick its ugly head up but heres a pic or 2 of the engine roughtly where it will sit. Robbie
Thats the problem when we start waffling about Mantas Simon, time just disapears, that crossmember had us scratching the heads for a while. The mounts rubbers you ordered in for the project will be a good job once i get the xmember modified, just waiting on Paul to pop over the bits of an old xmember [] Now that the gearbox is of I,ll pull the clutch out and inspect it and replace the front and rear seals as well. Cant do much more engine wise till i get brackets done. Though setting the engine in give me a better indication on where the dissy will be, it just covers the first 2 inches of the heater matrix vent. but is right smack where the matrix is, But with a new heater box it should be possible to move the whole matrix over 2". wont know about this one for a while till everything else is sorted. [] You have been doint some great work there Simon, at least the lads that need work done have somewhere to go and they can feel reassured that the car is going to be done right and not patched up [] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep The New OMOC Northern and Southern Ireland Forum http://www.vxopel.com/phpBB/ id="blue"> OMOC 5706
Shug
Its funny you should mention crossmembers. I bought a crossmember off paul when I got the shell, which means the one on my first manta will be going spare. Its '75 so is later version. I don't know when I'll get it off* but if you are in no desperate rush and don't mind whacking big postage charges we could come to an arrangement on it if you like. I should also quickly point out I'm not sure on its condition [] but it took the whole weight of front end when engine was still in ok. * I.e not this weekend but prob xmas time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OMOC #5988 But I'm a name, not a number dammit! Robbie
[] Thanks for the offer Shug but Paul is chopping the brackets of a not so good B series crossmember for me, so when i get them should be able to get them cleaned up and modified/welded to my early A series xmember. It will just take a bit of aligning etc to the engine is sitting at the proper 7 deg angle and clearing the steering rack and xmember. Bit more work this way but should end up not having to use any spacers on the rubber mounts, [] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep The New OMOC Northern and Southern Ireland Forum http://www.vxopel.com/phpBB/ id="blue"> OMOC 5706
Guest
Glad to see engine nearly in its new home! seems funny to see it in someone elses car and not mine!especially as I worked so hard on it[^][^]. Seeing that pic reminds me of another Manta at Billing about 6 years ago, may have even been Simon's, Im not an A fan but I admit they do look good in black with the chrome under the bonet. h0tr0dder_uk
That looks the dogs dangly bits!!!! I wish my engine bay looked that good - however I decided that mine was definately gonna be more of a daily than a show car. As for the ashley manifold we had to modify mine to go under the anti roll bar. its such a tight fit that you have to slacken the anti roll bar off to get the manifold out. for the engine we made up some spacers to fit the engine mounts at the correct height / angle. Its such a shame that my car will have be sold once my other one is done. After all the work i've put into it i'm kind of attached to it. Car should get painted over the winter and a few small jobs done and its finished[]
