maher the hermit
My insurance for my everyday drive (laguna 1.9dci) with direct line went up from £300 per year to £500 for no reason what so ever so decided to go on the compare the market online and got it down to just under the £300. phoned direct line and told them they tried everything to get me to stay with them even knocking £100 off so why couldnt they do that in the first place maybe i wouldnt of questioned it to much??? but wasnt enough so decided after being with direct line for 20+ years they are history
smiffy220
Ok, I'm not defending insurers as such, even though I am an underwriter (not for car insurance though), but Insurance Companies loose millions every year. Despite what most people think, very few private car insurers make any profit on your motor policies, they generally run them at a loss. Due to fraud (oh my neck hurts - give me £10k etc) claims, and these ambulance chasing lawyers fees that will triple that £10k claim to £30k, insurance companies are getting ripped off left right and centre! Just my company alone, on it's car insurance book of business, lost £500,000,000 last year, yes 1/2 billion!!!. Could any of you sustain a business with those sorts of losses? Yes there's fault's with insurers, yes they don't always pay your claim for what ever reason and will look for ways out of paying, they are in it to make money lets face it, it's a business same as any other. But it's well regulated now and these sorts of things are being ironed out. Problem is, with cars so costly to repair these days and injury claims so frequent, (and lets face it, how many of you have thought about exagerating a whiplash injury for a few quid?), it's no wonder really that most insurers are putting up prices by a MINIMUM 20% this year. I don't think this is going to change. It's ok going to a comparison site, but generally the decent insurers don't frequent these sites anymore as they've driven down premiums without getting the right information and are part of the problem believe it or not as to why your car insurance keeps going up!! I would suggest going to a broker local to you and getting them to do the hard work shopping around for you. Might not always be quite as cheap as the comparison sites, but will get you a good deal with a decent insurer most likely. Anyway, good luck and hope you get something more reasonable cost wise so you can keep your car!! Dave
Sutty2006
I never knew insurance companies lost that much! Wow! The last bump I had I was hit from behind. I had no choice but to go through a solicitor purely for physio treatment on my back. I didn't do it for the money, I didn't even think I'd get any! But I couldnt go to work in the state I was in. Physio sorted me out in the end! I need to check what the ST will be at the end of the month, can't afford big premiums!

I got quoted just shy of 900 quid for the Pajero by direct line, manage to get it for 600 with them. Biggest thing from our neck of the woods (i'm at Leyland)was the gang round blackburn/preston area doin the fraudulent claims, think they had about 40 claims in all. Footman James tried the same thing with me when the 1600 came up for renewal and added 20% on to the premium. I shopped around and have moved to Chris Knott who gave me fully comp for around £100 with agreed value and unlimited mileage. Went back to Footman James to see whether they could match it and got put on hold with the "death by Vivaldi" music. I'm going to move my other B too when that come up for renewal - v. disappointing service after 20 odd years. Scribe

spiney_norman
Kev, I can now beat you. Had a renewal quote from Lancaster arrive in the post today. The only change I've made is that last month I went from a 1900 Cav coupe to a 1600 Cav saloon. Other than that, all my details are exactly the same, no claims or anything like that. Current premium - £460 (or thereabouts, comes to £44.99 a month) Renewal quote - £1678.52 Now I make that nearly a 400% increase for no apparent reason. Either someone in their office is having a laugh at my expense or they just don't want customers any more!
mantaboy89
I had trouble like this too, had my manta insured with aviva for about 800 fully comp, when i recieved my renewal letter they wanted 2,200, got around it by cancelling the renewal and taking out a new policy with them, that then gave me "new customer" discount aswell as some other discounts, got it for about 900 in the end,was expensive but only 19 at the time. I'm with lancastwr now so hope I don't get a renewal offer that steep.

You know my Cav, well I'm with Lancaster,£15.68 a month, Annual Premium is £153.32, Transaction Fee £19.16, Total Amount Payable £172.68. @ eleven Monthly Payments of £15.68.That's Full Comp, Restricted mileage of 6,000, ( I never do more than 3,00 anyway.Agreed valuation of £2,750. and that's with LANCASTER. And to top it all they reduced my insurance this year, by £2,68 a month, cos they LOWERED the premium. YES!! LOWERED it by about 70 quid, can't remember the exact amount, so it is bad news for all you guys who are having premiums increased. it must be a Postcode thing. james
This is very interesting. Maybe its where I live or the fact that I've turned the big 40 but my insurance has gone down this year on both the car and van. Bmw 325i with Swift cover £233.32. iload van £332.84 with Direct line ( Business use ) Manta last year was £108.00 with RH insurance. Renewal due in July so will be interesting to see what that comes in at.

I work for the company that owns RH, so I could be biased, but most people I've told to ring them have got a better deal and found them really helpful and knowledgeable. Might be worth a try! Also, car insurance may well go down next year following the EU Gender ruling. Women will pay more, but it's possible mens premiums may come down a little. Insurers won't be allowed to price based on gender after December 2012! So one to watch. Lloyds generally help out, but the syndicate's owners also had to foot the bill from their other global operations. We've just about turned it around to almost break even this year, but have lost money for the previous 4 years!
