Danny D114BCW
Brand new rear quarter. This is a genuine, rare & brand new drivers side rear quarter panel for a Opel Manta Coupe. Collection is preferred from Burnley, Lancashire but postage can be arranged at an extra cost. More pictures upon request. £800 many thanks, Dan 07779395099
mantadoc
interesting The view of the inside makes it look like it has a few tiny "dings". Does it or is it an illusion?
Danny D114BCW
I wouldn't know would have to look closer but at the end of the day it would require work to be fitted anyway so dings at nothing when all things are considered.
Kevin Abbott
I'd rather slap out a few knocks than throw my car away because I can't find a rear quarter. I'm surprised it's than good considering the age of the panel
evo3000
One of the hardest panels to get hold of for the manta without a doubt.

Cool. It's not a criticism it is just a question because condition and value are directly linked. For example I can fit a quarter and no one would know, but I hate filler. I'm not good at it or patient with it and I don't have the skill to slap out dings with a hammer and dolly if stretched or brave enough to heat shrink an £800 panel and neither do most people that call them selves panel beaters. If some one needs one it is definitely worth the money. I would be tempted to have it for loft stock / see how much expressed steels can make them for but not at current price. There wasn't enough interest to support a rear panel run last time let alone cover the price of sacrificed panel.
Kevin Abbott
The club could buy it as they are loaded Then I'll take it to Magnum in Rochdale who do all the classic ford parts and get a price to replicate. I have brand new rear panel, door, skin, inner wing, boot lid too if the club want to buy them and I'll take those down to magnum. If Magnum say no I will store the panels for the club at an arranged fee per year, sounds a winner to me
mantadoc
Then I'll take it to Magnum in Rochdale who do all the classic ford parts and get a price to replicate. I thought that was Ex-Pressed or is this them via another brand? Be weird for two niche suppliers to be so close
Kevin Abbott
It's always been called Magnum car panels, the offshoot is http://magnumclassicfordpanels.co.uk/ and mini, transit etc. Ex-Pressed are in Cowling, Nr. Keighley. ( If they even produce it at all, as I thought the ford stuff was made in Vietnam )
mantadoc
Ex-pressed press their own stuff from what I have seen, have been in the workshop when I was trying to sort a rear panel run and they were already doing some rare Opel stuff Seriously though I would probably throw in with a few folk to buy the panel for that purpose Re company choice should probably have a look and see who has been around longest as well as have competitive quotes. Wheh I was looking to sort out a rear panel run ages ago Ex-pressed had been around over 16 years - Established 1990 so 25 years. Point being whoever had the original to make more from has to be around to do it. Interestingly Magnum don't appear to do Escort Mk1 bubble arches - Ex-pressed told me they were the only people doing them IIRC Edited December 10, 2015 by mantadoc
Kevin Abbott
I wish I could keep it, got too much money in that quarter between Dan and I though.
mantadoc
I'd would go £500 to stick it in the loft. I know that's not £800 but I don't need one at the moment it would be for future. Alternatively I would throw in a share with others to buy it for reproduction purposes. This would amount to effectively being a donation which if it went ahead I would not expect back. I know there are logistical issues before it gets shot down. But I would not object to it being given to a reproducers as long as they pressed 20 and the OMOC controlled the flow and got a royalty on each. I know <insert company name> have this arrangement with others.
Snowy
I'd go in if there were reproduction quarters to be had.
GTEPETE
A replica one piece GTE nose grill from headlamp to headlamp would be a best seller...
mantadoc
I wish I could keep it, got too much money in that quarter between Dan and I though. Sounds like a "for profit" joint venture, so I expect not much wiggle room on price?

TheRealExile
Kevin, Did the buyer collect in the end? I still have an eye out for a drivers side rear quarter myself, I like the idea of clubbing together to get some reproduction panels made especially rear quarters, rear panels oh and not a panel but door rubbers!! I have seen them on ebay for the A series but not the newer cars.
Kevin Abbott
Yes it's gone, there is talk of express panels doing repro manta stuff if they can get 2 off each genuine panel
TheRealExile
I think the passenger side rear quarter I have is genuine, can't be 100% as the label is worn away.
TheRealExile
Had a chat with them and they are happy to purchase panels off people at the going rate, they didn't baulk when I mentioned the value of this panel and said they would pay the going rate in order to make new ones, or make you a new panel if people prefer that. They have to be original panels though and will people be willing to part with them as sadly the process is destructive so you wouldn't get your original back? It would mean though that more cars could be saved in the future and might even stop insurance firms writing cars off if the panels were available.
mantadoc
If the club keeps ownership of the panel and hence the mould express would only make / sell them through the club which may supply an income stream for the club and discount over retail for club members.. Surely that would be a better arrangement for a cash rich club to support members with what they need. Of course if the panels had been put aside probably the best part of a decade ago instead of people saying I made it up

The post from express panel was on the owners club site on facebook so is more official then putting on here and gets a bigger audience, the post was supposed to put up on omoc but it never showed up. It may do, things may be moving in the right direction in the background.
Danny D114BCW
can we not move this thread or start a new one in the members section? Edited February 11, 2017 by Danny D114BCW
Irmscher Man
New topic created in members area and most f this discussion has been moved to here as this is something that will affect members and involves spending club funds, the members area is the most appropriate place for this discussion.
