Pilsen
Hello. Here are som pictures of my manta b project. Some of the pictures are in really bad quality and unfortunally my english is as bad as the pictures I'll try my best:D I'm going to use a 3.0l v6 engine, and turbo convert it. Here are some of the engine and gear specs, i'm going to update this post with more information/specs on the chassis and driveline later. x30xe block +0,50mm overdim. Wiseco pistons. Crower steel H-rods ARP2000 rod-bolts. ARP head studs. ARP flywheel bolts. Removed EGR. 3layers steel head gaskets. ACL race bearings all over. Peterson 3stage drysump pump. Custom fuelrail. 6x 1600cc Bosch injectors. Aeromotive a1000 fuel pressure regulator. Aeromotive Eliminator fuelpump. Electromotive Tec GT ecu. Electromotive DFU. 3bar map sensor. Taylor custom cables Eledbrock 102mm throttle body. Garret GT3582r ballbearing turbo with tial 1.06 stainless v-band exhaust housing. Tial 60mm wasteagate. Tial 50mm dump valve. Tremec TKO-600 five speed gearbox. Custom Adapter. Manta 1800 bellhouse. McLeud hydraulic throwout bearing. Custom lightweight flywheel. Spec clutchpack. Custom 3.5" alu driveshaft. I hope for 500hp and 600nm @ the wheels with e85 fuel. This is how it looked like before I started the project. And suddenly it looked like this: Then I started to remove all the tectyl and other original crap inside and under the car: Then some nessesary sheet metal work, I also made a firewall: Then it was time for roll-cage: then I went to a friend of mine and picked up a dummy v6 engine, after some cutting and mods I finaly got the engine and gearbox where it should be. The I just had to put an turbo there too see how it looked This was some of the pictures, more are comming..... opel2000
Heck!! could you not have found a bigger Turbo That is looking at being one hell of a car when done, love the Turbo'd V6 idea, absolutely brilliant
smiffy220
Mate, if the project turns out half as good as your English, you'll have a great motor there! Well done, nice work.
Pilsen
Thank you guys! The turbo I used on the last picture is actually smaller than the one i'm using on the project Here's a follow up on the project: Making room for the tremec and 3.5" downpipe and 3" exhaust. And yes, I know the tunell is huuuuuuge! Its starting to look like a car inside again, finaly: I welded in som square tube to mount the seats on: Sprayed two component epoxy primer and sealed all the welding seams. mantaray
Nice work. Is the car going to be road legal,or just for track use ? If for road use, how bad is it to get passed the goverment road test, over there, with the body being modified. I fitted a 2.5 V6 in to my A series back in 1997, love the engine,I also have one in my Omega.

But in Noway we have a thing called "test plates" that you could buy for a day og two at the time. This way I can also use it on some nice sunny days in the summer:) I'm going to try it on the goverment road test(in norway called "EU control"), but I dont think they approve of it. Pilsen
Damn.. I had written a long post with many photos and much text. But when I was about to post the post the laptop was out of power. The update will be slightly smaller: p The front "axel" was sandblasted, welded and reinforced then powder coated black satin: Since this cars is going to be used mostly for racing and track use, all of the bushes was replaced by Poly bushes. I also changed all of the upper and lower balljoints, wheel bearings and tie rod parts. Since theese old opels have steering like boats from the 70's I also went ahed and purchased and installed Quaife short control. This gives 1.5 rounds from right to left which makes the car more instantaneous on the steering. Whaaat!? To many pictures in one post? okeeey, then we have to split them in too several posts:P ....Continued from previous post: Then too the most importent think on the car, the brakes. I'm using omega brake disc's in 296x28mm and Brembo 4pot calipers from Porsche. When we drilled the discs to fit the wheel hubs, we also did some modification to the hub and disc. We drilled and threaded eight holes in each section instead of the four who are there originally. This is to improve stability during heavy braking. Here is a picture of the caliper i Used to make the caliper bracket's, underneeth it you could see the calipers i'm using: Apex 60mm race springs, all of the bolts and nuts are in 12.9 quality. That was all for now, i'l come with further updates on sunday. This weekend I will enjoy myself along with many other Opel enthusiasts on a nationwide gathering of the Norwegian Opel Motorsport Club. Pilsen
Thank's Kev! It's nice too se that somebody is reading this thread. No point of posting in it if no one read's it:) Then it was time to fabricate a pedalbox with wilwood master cylinders. I bought a "hanging" pedalbox assembly from wilwood, but didnt like the way it was maked. In stead a friend of mine modyfied the original pedals to fit 2x wilwood mastercylinders to the brakes and 1 x wilwood mastercylinder to the hydraulic clutch. Then I had to cut out and weld in some in the chassie: Since this car is getting a huge amount of bhp and tourqe the back axel have too be upgraded. I didnt bother to do som reinforcement to the original axel, so I picked up one with a friend of mine from volvo 240, this is a dana 1030 axel. First I cut and grind away all of the orginal volvo mounts: The I bought some new Opel "springholders" and welded on(maybe someone could tell me the english name of them?) : I also had to make some mounts to the axel: I am using 3/4" threaded rod ends to the axel mount. Since the volvo is 5x108 and opel is 4x100 I had to weld and drill the axel shafts. I have also mounted some new long studs on this picture. midasmesh
Great post and welcome Pilsen. Enjoying reading your post good project thread. As for the name of the spring holders they could be called Spring Seats or Spring Cups.

Pilsen
Thank you guys, its funny to get som feedback. As you may have noticed I made me a jig too turn the car upside down, this came handy when the bak axel was to be mounted on the car. Axel mount and ajustable panhard: Taking away the rest of the shit they sprayed under the car to make sure it didnt rust, what did it do? yes, rust under it! Some bad steel is changed out: Welding all of the seams in the car:

Pilsen
New day, new update: I change out som plate in the car, then i also had to give it some looooove : As good as new: Since I made a mount to the back axel in the floor of the car, i wanted to reinforce this a little bit by welding it to the roll cage. This should be good enough. The underneeth of the car badly needed som love and care before paint, here are som pictures from the sanding, washing, more sanding, etch priming, sealing and final layer of primer. A friend of mine which also is my painter is helping out: Etch(accid) primer: Me adding som sealer around 03:30 in the night: Home made paint room: And finaly last layer of primer around 04:45 in the night: Then the next day we startet on the engine room, Sanding down som "plaster" Or what do you call it? (In norway we call it "sparkel") Making a bracket for the brake fluid resorvoir: A good layer of etch primer: To be continued in next post!
Pilsen
Then 2 good layers of "filler" too even out all of the scratches and bungs: Then we sprayed some black paint easely over the filler to make the sanding easier to get nice! taaaadddaaaa: But I have to say, the color dosn't get any justice on theese pictures, its much more "RED" than it seems. the color code is from volkswagen and is "LY3D". Underneeth and in det engine room we used acryl based paint, put on the outside of the car i'm going to use water based color with a couple of clear coat layers.
