Should leave a lot more room for headers, steering linkage etc. I also have the steering rack mocked up so will remove the whole subframe and finish the welding next. i suggest welding a triangle bracket underneath the round tube for the engine mountings, i did like yours first time when i ran the CIH 6 and they cracked the welds. GTREA
Sorry been off OMOC for a while with one thing and another, can't see any of your pics yet even though I renewed my membership a day or so ago!? Looking forward to seeing your progress
h0tr0dder_uk
my first attempt at building headers failed miserably. a combination of poor gaps (cutting the correct angle in tubing is a pain), welding the backside of the headers with them off the engine and too much heat from the welder ended in too much distortion. so i gave up and ignored the car for a week until i was in a better mood. then i went and bought one of these cool tools - a tubing notcher. cost $48 from harbor freight (worth every penny) Project images are available to Club Members Only, Click to become an OMOC Member. makes joints like this -can be used for roll cages too Project images are available to Club Members Only, Click to become an OMOC Member. then i built a heavy duty jig so the headers can be fully welded whilst clamped in the right place Project images are available to Club Members Only, Click to become an OMOC Member. hopefully ill get to finish up the first side over xmas
h0tr0dder_uk
Its about time I did an update. I've been on and off this project for a while now. Crazy hot summers (100f) out here keep me out of the garage, but covid has helped me crack on with it In order to fit the huge intercooler I had to remove the original spoiler and a large section of the front panel. I came up with this spoiler to try and regain some of the original design. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1asKWZy9z7hamV3YkjLEcAAde6uy2qhbC/view?usp=sharing Then I spent months wiring all of the new Haltech electronics to the engine (ECU, 2 x Ignition controllers, Wide Band Controller). https://drive.google.com/file/d/129Lec_MqZSvHvb2FgYhTWYaHwP3hydLx/view?usp=sharing Also had to order some custom oil cooler line fittings etc etc. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1biU5Ufd6DYGtqa_1rHhxw_ew3eWtVa6M/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/14DJNSaam7QIUnvGjvMadYWDE1KaQ6Th3/view?usp=sharing Finally today I was able to start it up for the first time https://youtu.be/Mp08nHv_CvA The engine was running pretty rich. Since this video I've adjusted the injector sizing and its a lot better. Next job is to order a transmission controller and wire that in. Once that's done it can all go back in the car.

Excellent project 👍, been thinking about a 1uz conversion for my AsconaA.If you can get this in this, then I should have an easy time with the Lexus lump 😁 Is the rack all finished? Would not mind a few picks how you got it lower of finished setup if possible as I think I will need to reform the top of the subframe (make it thin) and lower the steering rack too. czwh42
This is going to be as awesome as your previous A series. Loving the engine work and getting it going 😀 I presume the power output of that engine will be more than stock now that you have a custom ecu setup. It's not shabby power in standard form though 😆 Edited September 4, 2020 by czwh42 Typo

The chasis of the S63s Class struggled with the power, I could very rarely drive it anger although I tried multiple times and upset a lot of VAG owners 😁

My engine will have a smaller supercharger pulley to overdrive it, a larger intercooler, free flowing headers and exhaust and no smog equipment. I'm thinking around 550bhp. 16 hours ago, Jessopia74 said: Excellent project 👍, been thinking about a 1uz conversion for my AsconaA.If you can get this in this, then I should have an easy time with the Lexus lump 😁 Is the rack all finished? Yeah - the manta rack sits about 1 - 1.5" higher than the cross member. If you need to lower the rack you have to notch the cross member and make new mounts. Then you have to work out the new pivot point intersection and get a rack that is narrow enough. Otherwise you'll get bump steer. I'll post a pic of the geometry when I get a chance.

h0tr0dder_uk
Its been a while so its time for an update. My girlfriend joined the USAF and got stationed in Virginia so I packed up my car and drove 2700 to the east coast. Stopped off at a few historic places on route 66 including this one. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oAIhBmy4aoLnTXueJ6N3DFEzLVDb2uhM/view?usp=sharing Now were settled I can get back on this project. The cr@ppy weather here should also ensure I spend more time in the garage now :D First task is to build headers which has been a major roadblock. I have them tacked up and will send them to professionals for fully welding. As you can see there's hardly any room for headers so had to go back to the original plan of log style headers. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MTlPqX7YB01haPuZoDhksB3tMloXsSHY/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/10eR_pj5G5AmhgWM9vJkxgIXkAiMunEvy/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aO0jlgVwSE0rfmmS_By3f5U-VVEyTZJZ/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/14_YhqcP2Y2Q8uTJQPpvxZQSvclcuChrz/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1L7Mw_8z2LyYLX40xu5r0UtoVSBgCDTOE/view?usp=sharing
Jessopia74
Epic journey huh! But pretty spectacular trip no doubt 😎👍 Good job on headers, not much room in there eh. As it’s an A , pretty much same engine bay as my Ascona, I am amazed how you got it in there! Certainly not much room lol

h0tr0dder_uk
Started work on the transmission tunnel. Figured a spaceframe would add a little strength. https://drive.google.com/file/d/11bGuc7UYwco3JLZ_vjAe4URbvhC6QCdg/view?usp=sharing I put the air filters and front engine trim back on and it makes the engine look humungous in the engine bay. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1toxJFTvLP04XT0qg7SBYJHIY3CvWJroG/view?usp=sharing Edited February 5, 2023 by h0tr0dder_uk

h0tr0dder_uk
The axle is an 8.8" Ford axle that has been narrowed. It has custom made half shafts, disc brakes and a locker diff. I used the original manta trailing arms, spring cups and panhard rod. I added upper bars to make it a 4 link system.

LS engines come in different sizes from 5.7 to 6.2, NA or supercharged etc. Everyone does the LS engines so I chose this engine and transmission to be different. I'm sure my life would have been a lot easier if Id gone that route as so much off the shelf stuff available. .
