Picked this up. Not a manga but it has a CIH in it still.
Some of you should see it at the NEC March.
never thought one would come up at the right time for the right money. Its solid underneath needs work and especially the lovely vinyl additions removing. I’ll leave that for something to do at the NEC hopefully.

to get it on the road hopefully just a new set of boots and I’ll throw it through an MOT.

Done the deal on spares too.
3ltr lump (for sale)

Twin carb manifold

set of 14” turbovecs

screen rubbers

dizzies caps (very hard to get hold of for the 2.5 I’m told, old Porsche match)

another new carb 38DGAS for the twin setup

other buts and bobs

very long term project this one, but have some cool plans for it and a colour change. Will be just to have it as an option this summer as well as the exclusive.

Congrats with the buy, this is one of the most beatifull cars Opel ever made. The grille looks like a Ranger one.   The dizzie cap is not the only Porsche related part 😁, needed new front brake pads for my 400 so it is all Commo stuff and noticed they were the same as the rear brake pads of an old Porsche 911

I have to agree also Herman, the shape is awesome. It’s a magnum grill I believe. I’m not a fan of the square headlights anyway. They will probably end up being single headlights, Cameron esque.
it is amazing the crossover of parts you discover

Getting cracking for the nec in March.

btakes tripped off. Will be installing new bearings as one is binding slightly.
new pads, going to skim discs on the lathe as near impossible to get any new ones in time from Germany.

mocker up the 14 turbovecs that came with the car. Look nice for now. But the need counter drilling for steel insterts. I can’t be arsed with all that so just going to stick some new tires on the 15’s.

stripped all the Americana off it too. It’s left some shadowing etc but I’ll give it a mop over and see if can polish it out.

nice lowering Bodgery on the rear springs that’s actually holding one together lol.
new lowering springs ordered form Germany. Hopefully get here in time.

No  no idea about the euro 400.
those clamps I’ve seen before on old 80’s stuff. It has broken after, not a means to be old it together.

Got a couple of hours in.

This steering pivot was as loose as a wizards sleeve. So attempting a new bushing from delrin I had lying around.
First attempt it shattered, so I machined the bore first the second time then press fit diameter. Ran out of time to get it installed.

also found he needs a new rear cylinder.

brake back plates, hubs and drums have been dropped off to my mate to blast up.

Rear brakes rebuilt-

Rear drums (Re drilled manta)

Big delivery yesterday

tires for the 14” turbovecs

caliper seal kit from big red

bleed nipples of the correct sizing and hitch were a pain to track down.

speedshack as usual awesome with sourcing wheel nuts, although I will have to machine all x20 down to size as oversized but at least the correct type. Sleeve 11/16th and flat type washer seating.

new steering bush seated. De rusted the brackets that I’ve been removing and added some paint to keep fresh.

eventually it will all be ditched for a customer front clip and easy to source brakes but for now keeps it going

Couple of hours in the unit today.

wheel bolts turned down. Had trsrill the wheel out to 17.5mm holes, by sheer luck I had said drill bit already in the drawers if taken over last week from the home garage. Had to turn the shank down to 13mm to get in the drill Chuck.
Rear wheels now on. Tyre fitment looks good, will stay this way for couple years I reckon.

calipers now rebuilt fully. The bra dust seals were a pain to get on! Perseverance paid off. They’ve had a lick k of silver VHT paint.

waiting on the steering joints now.

found some evidence of when it was last at the VBOA too!

Swift work mate

If I don’t plug away I won’t be driving it to the NEC end of the month. Nothing go a smoothly so having lots of shake down time is essential. Hopefully two weeks shakedown at this rate.

Rod ends have landed but I think the inners are not the correct taper sadly but at least me help me figure out correct ones.

Insured and  on the road!
But tyres scrub like hell as been lowered considerably at the rear now. Haven’t done the fronts yet as maybe leaving that for something to do at the NEC possibly

so went for it and cut the panard to make it adjustable as lowering has swung the axle over a fair bit to make one side scrub.
I robbed the v8 A series front end I still have of its adjustable compression strut (escort mk2 rally) coincidence has it that it is too 25mm tube with a 20mm bore. So machined off the adjustable part I needed and it slip fitted perfectly. Drilled a hole to plug weld and will seal round the end.

paint job done
